I was on the USR tape site today and noticed they no longer carry any 10 inch plastic reels anymore. Its all metal ones now. I was going to order some plastic ones down the road to save costs, since just to get a metal one adds $10-15 dollars per tape. When did this happen and anyone know why? Was demand so low they stopped carrying them?

I don't know. Did they specifically SAY that they were discontinuing all plastic reels, or are they simply out of them?

USR's inventory tends to be very fluid. Sometimes if they are out of something, they will simply remove it from their site until they get replenished with new supply.

Another thing to keep in mind is that plastic reels aren't likely to be getting any cheaper. What has the price of oil done in the last year? What is a key base ingredient for all types of plastic?

You may well soon be faced with the possibility of having no CHOICE but the metal reels. Or else plastic ones that are almost the same in cost.

Given that set of circumstances and near equilibrium in price, what style would YOU choose in most cases?

I never saw any posting in regards to the plastic reels, I just noticed that the entire 10 inch lineup no longer has them. Not one. Its all 7 and 5 inch now for plastic.

A simple e-mail to them will likely settle the issue. USR has always been extremely helpful and courteous to deal with.
