Let just say would it be easy to design and make a speaker based on the Mach One design? Lets say today you would pick up a car stereo 15 inch subwoofer running 4 ohms for the woofer, plus a midrange and tweeter from some other source. Would the box dimensions be similar or would using a car subwoofer speaker ask for a smaller enclosure? Also would it be easy to design the speaker without volume controls that the Radio Shack speakers needed? And what components would you use for the crossover, all of course depending on what midrange and tweeter you pick? Help me design the best Mach One knockoff you could with todays drivers and parts. The cabinet I can get made at a wood working shop, so real wood using K3 and veneer could be used. Plus you could incorporate internal bracing the original didn't use.

So let me see what design you could come up with for a today Mach One. I checked one site for parts and they showed this:

The Titanium tweeter and 5 1/4" Poly cone midrange caught my eye.

Hi braxus,

Are you planning to build speakers, using all new and readily available components? I like your idea, as even though older Mach Ones can be bought for a reasonable price, you want to build speakers from scratch.

Nando.

Hi Nando,

I just want to build from scratch a equivalent speaker using todays components and technology, but based on the Mach One design. Besides not many Mach 1s are available locally and shipping a set of these isn't reasonable. I know the Mach Ones used horns mids and tweets, but I'd like to see what drivers in use today we could use.

Just wondering if the drivers I looked at above will work together and suggestion on box size with port.

Box size is dependent on the woofer. It will tell you that in the specs. You have to look at the SPL and what the crossover points will be. So you have to match them freq. wise. Then figure what kind of xover you want to use. Alot has to do with how much you want to pay. What are you going to use for the cabinet? You have to figure the vent dia. and length. A 15 inch woofer is going to need a big box. If it is ported then the box isn't as big. Another place which can help is GR Reasearch. The owner is Danny Ritchey google his name. He knows his stuff. They also sell speakers and xover components. Tell him That I sent you. We are old aquantenances. He will work with you. I also have an acct. at parts express so I get a little better price.
