Anyone went for the new Beatles Box Set, the Mono and Stereo. The best place to get it is Amazon, it will set you back $450.00-$500.00. Now I have other box set and other discs but both of this new box set sounds the best I ever heard from the Beatles. I know that some of you will say that your records sound great and I don't doubt that, but this CD set is on fire, wicked, just plain awesome, it is warm, fat, deep, sweet, the timbre is just perfect, the mid melts you, and the bass is electrifying. Abbey Road sounds awesome!, recommendation is to the max. Stop buying tapes for a month if you don’t have enough Mula and save if you like the Beatles this is a most, and don't take long this is the 2nd run and last one.

The second "run", so-to-speak, is on the Mono set which has always been officially stated as "limited" production since the original release announcement. The Stereo Set is slated to be available indefinitely, probably until such time that they do another repackaging in an even higher quality format and/or remix - instead of just being remastered.

FYI, the Mono Box is produced strictly in Japan and is packaged much differently than the Stereo Box and reportedly, to higher quality standards with respect to the individual, original album cover replication and treatment/construction therein.

I picked up the Stereo Box on Amazon for less than 180 clams. The Mono Box can be sourced in the lower 200's (Tower.com was one source a month or so ago...) and as high as four to five hundred on eBoy which is totally outrageous.

I agree with your general assessment on the sound quality and the array of qualitative aspects you mention, but the thing is, it's not consistent across ALL the discs - only some sound significantly improved in my estimation but as always these things are very subjective.

Die-hard fans and collectors should buy the Boxes and enthusiasts should pick up their favorite albums individually is my recommendation. If you can audition these somehow from someone that has already made the leap, it's advisable to do so because you're apt to come to the realization that some of these discs are no better than the 1987 counterparts - I know I did.

Im happy with the stereo release only. Im not opting for the mono discs. I have heard the vinyl version are coming though, but I can imagine the price those will go for. Some suggested $500 maybe?

My mono box is still sitting here in the shrinkwrap. Since they screwed me by adding a 2nd press run I kind of wish I would have just bought the stereo box instead.

Not a Dye hard, I bought the Mono because of great reviews, and yes not all the music is perfect but what one box set does not have the other one does. I am happy to say that I bought both, open both and began listening to both. The best I ever heard.

Play them! You're screwing yourself out of some superb sounding mono cd's. My box set will be getting cremated with me *Hi5*

Broons, how bout you give us your take on this set. I for one am interested in your impressions. Did you happen to compare these to the stereo ones as well?

I have 8 of the stereo disks which I bought over a few weeks while waiting for my mono set to come in. I'll probably wind up with all of them sooner or later.

I like how they sound in comparison to the 1987 remasters but I much prefer the mono disks. They just sound "right" to me. Imaging is superb and gives the listener the sense of the studio. I like that. To me, The Beatles music is at its best in mono.

One stereo disk that I don't care for all that much is Rubber Soul. It's a little too crisp and thin sounding while the mono version is clean but spacious and enveloping. That one, along with SPLHCB makes me weak in the knees *praise*

When I'm feeling more ambitious I'll type up and post the first few intro pages from the mono set booklet. It very elegantly and succinctly describes the differences between the mono and stereo versions and why they exist. It's an interesting read.
I tried taking pictures of the pages but I couldn't get them in focus properly and I didn't feel like putzing with my tripod.

After hearing this, now I'm thoroughly curious to how these mono cuts sound dumped onto tape as well as straight off the discs. Thanks!

If your deck can pick up all the detail is a done deal why pay a lot for the Mofi cassette on FleaBay.
