I picked up a pair of JBL L-45 Flairs yesterday. The are essentially the L-100 with a 135A 15-inch woofer. I had to take out woofer out to clean the controls but otherwise in good sonic condition. They were made in 1974.

Damn Sam you picked those up yesterday??? I saw you in another thread that you missed the G-9000 for $230 by one person. What time did you call the guy because I emailed him at like 5:30 in the monin?

I got lucky on the JBL's. Saw them near the top and scored! My competition was calling while I was there as usual.
I called the 'Sui seller at 7:00 am and got the impression I was number two. He had a noon appt. with the buyer. I called at 12:30 and the guy was late so I thought I had a chance. Called again at 2:30 and the 'Sui was gone. I should have offered more money while I had the guy on the line but that goes against my ethics. The BIG G would have paired nicely with the JBL's.

Hi Sam.
The Sansui G-9000 would, certainly, have been a good deal. Although, it's after the fact, was your impression this receiver worked and looked fine? Private deals are some of the best to be had. Bought many components in the past 3 years from original owners, usually, with all the original packaging and operating manuals and schematics.
The JBL L-45s need a hand cart to be moved around. Will you be keeping these? I bet the woofer is probably worth more than what you paid for each speaker. You didn't haggle on this deal?
Nando.

N: The G-9000 looked perfect. It was hooked up and running in the photos. I had high confidence that was going to be a good deal.
The Flair drivers are worth a lot more than I paid for the pair. I'm not sure if this set is going to become a "Budget Builder". I'm having fun with them. However, they are too big and ugly and dominate my living room.

The JBL L45 Flair tech sheet calls for the LE25 to be replaced but the 035TiA tweeter. Since I have always thought the paper cone in the LE25 to be shouty and fatiguing, I raided my L80T's for the 035TiA tweeter. I went ahead and replaced the original LE5-5 with the L80T's 104H midrange. The sound is smoother than ever with the HF fatigue now gone. I also went ahead and soldered the speaker wire ends which opens up the highs and mid-highs very nicely.
