Going thru my tapes, I ran across a Target store brand cassette I bought sometime around 1994-95. Target used to sell them in 5 or 6 pack bricks for about $3 or so. They came with cases, but had the labels already on the tape. I didn't buy many of them, but I think I bought them because for that price, it was worth a shot to see if they were any good.

Anyway, tonight I thought I'd listen to one. It's a recording of a radio program I recorded off the public FM radio station, "Rhythm Review", back in 1995. I haven't listened to it since 1995 I believe. I was smart to label the tape that I used Dolby C. So after FF & RW it all the way thru, I put it in my NAD 613 cassette deck.

I have to say, for what it is, the tape doesn't sound bad at all. To be honest, I was expecting it to be almost unplayable. But it doesn't have any dropouts or hiss or anything; very listenable. This tape isn't a Maxell XLII-S or anything, but for general recording on the cheap, they're just about as good as other tapes I've used. Better than Scotch & the housing doesn't squeal or whine when FF or RW. For the price, I should have maybe bought more.

I remember Target brand Video tapes way back when, but I don't recall seeing any Audio Tapes. :)

Yeah, I only noticed them for a few years in the early-mid 90's.
