So this week ended kinda on a down note. At least I haven't been banned from TapeHeads. But work was dragging, backing up faster than I can paddle forward. So I stopped at one of our two thrifts (a SVDP) on the way home and score the ultimate cassette find of the century. Yes, ladies and germs, unopened, never touched by human hands, discounted off the ridiculously already-low, low price, and sought after by fanatics and collectors alike, I present the ultimate in NOS tape finds....
A four pack, and I got 'em for a quarter. Yea, don't be jealous, a whole quarter. These are so far off the map of super-tapes that I can't even begin to describe their quality. Unlike those XLII-S's, I ain't gonna be entertaining offers on these babies. They're going straight to the vault! I mean, it's even printed saying it's "quality" tape, so how can ya go wrong?!?
Let the jealous rage begin .....

Are these going to be on youtube involving a barbecue pit and flammable liquids?
Just wonderin'?*eyepop*

I was thinking some quiet Alaskan backwoods, a can of propane, one of my AK-47's, and about 100 yards ....

Try one out and give us the full review. :-?
I bet they compare favorably to the current TDK D90 and Sony HF90's
Screw together shells, maybe you can use the parts for other cassettes?

Exactly. Although the tape on those checkout lane cassette packs was often 3rd rate, the shells may be worth salvaging. It's a good idea, especially since Radio Shack doesn't sell cassette repair kits anymore. I bought a 10 pack of Quantegy instant start cassettes & I'm planning to use the shells, boxes, & J-cards.....but not the tape, which was, let's say, less than impressive.
Seriously, you should record on one of those & give a full review. After all, like you said, it says "Quality Tape" right on the label!

That's exactly why I bought them -- screw together shells. If nothing else, or if NAD613 doesn't jump and howl to acquire them in his garage full of Akai tapes, then I'll salvage parts from them and call it even-score.

Gee. Those tapes are almost worth putting into one of my frames. ALMOST. :P*hypnot*

Aw, come on! "Super value". "Quality tape". All the buzz words. No wonder Maxell, TDK, and all the others gave up the game and moved to digital. Who could compete?!? *Hi5*

Well even if you don't use the parts, for a quarter you provided 15 minutes of tape thrills here on TH. I wonder how many posts a thread about Maxwell tapes would yield? :D

That crappy new Maxell XLII I have that had the drop-outs I'm going to keep as a repair cassette.

I'll bet there definition of 'low noise' is that you won't see the meters move much on playback. Definitely target practice material.

ROFL! Yea, what's a tape that advertises 100% dropouts?

Well for 49 and 1/4 cents new I bet they were known as Maxell and TDK Killer tapes? :-?
I thought I read somewhere on the Nak forum, that is all those guys use?

I'll also bet that these tapes (and many others like them) were funded by the major manufacturers, by advice from there legal departments. This way when they tout there quality claims all they have to say is '....better than other brands we've tested'! *Spin*

I am glad they list 90 minutes on the tape and they also list 45 minutes per side. For awhile there I thought side A would have 60 minutes and side B would have 30 minutes. *sarc*

Well, maybe they were made for someone who had to post the number of toes he had in his avatar name on that "other" place so he would know each day? There are people out there like that! They walk among us ....

:-oo:-oo:-oo:-oo:-oo That was a good one. Besides a shortage of cranial material the digitman is very grumpy too.
