Hello All,
I just got a x-1000r off ebay and it look like it was perfect except
I was seeing if it would play and I observed this strange behaviour
if I press the play forward button both reels will go cpunter-clockwise like I had press reverse play. All the other buttons behave as normal even fast-forward and its opposite function.
Hopefully its just me doing something wrong rather than anything else
be kind when you reply becuase this is my first deck which looks great but ....

oops I meant to say that when I press the forward play the behaviour is the same if I pressed reverse play
reels move clockwise and tape travel is from right to left which doesn't seem right
Sorry

Hi Roberto;
We will be kind as this machine is strange to you but being you have a machine called the X1000R, the R means it is capable of bi-directional record and playback. This differs from a simple autoreverse deck in that it also records in the reverse direction. You pay for this in the initial cost as well when heads are replaced. Thus to answer your concern, yes the deck is suppose to play in both directions depending on what play direction you select. This is so you do not have to remove the reel from the deck to turn it over to play or record on the second side. The reverse heads on the deck are positioned so that they are shifted down to use the 2,4 tracks where the forward direction of the deck uses 1, 3 tracks. The left forward track #1 is at the top of the tape whereas the left channel 4 of reverse if the very bottom of the tape. Bottom referring to the tape edge closest to the decks face plate and track 1 closest to you while deck is standing upright. The one thing you need to know about all dual Capstan (dual Pinch Roller) decks is to keep the Pinch Rollers clean all the time or trouble will result. Naphtha is a chemical that is commonly used on Pinch Rollers to clean. Of course let the roller dry before playing a tape. If you have other questions, most I can answer.

Hi Robert,
Assuming you are threading the deck correctly. The only way the tape can travel in forward as it did in reverse is that the motor is not changing directions. To confirm this you first will hear music in a backwards sound.
The rear case will need to be removed. The motor rotation can be observed from the left side and if you do not see the flywheels stop and reverse direction when you change directions. At this point unless you intend to service it yourself, you may have to send it to a Technician. Servo tensions can be off on the reel drives but I have never known a condition that overcomes the capstan motor. Make sure the tape is threaded on top of the Pinch Rollers not under them. The perfect units on E bay often are sold because they are not perfect. Just my experience- I should know I am always fixing them.
