What do you think of these tapes:

The price is tempting, less than $40 for 100 type II chrome 90 min cassettes.

Well as the name implies, they ARE "cool" if for no other reason than the variety of colors. At the very least, would make a great frame display. But as for the tape, I don't know. Most likely, it's generic bulk grade. If you feel comfortable with the price, get them and give us a full test report. Maybe those can be the next big thing akin to the Akai cassettes currently being sold through B+B.
Or at least sell us 'packages' of one each color so that way we don't all have to buy that many at a time.

You have to buy 100 in 1 color only. Personally, I'd choose the green.

These are apparently no-name junk. (I've never heard of it. Of course, I'm very old & out of it.) The name says it all. They're selling colors, not serious audio media. Why would the tape be anything but the lowest quality?
Cute for kids, but that's about it. In normal times, I wouldn't touch it.

Not only that, but you'd have to buy cases & labels, too. If I'm going to do that, I'll buy some quality tapes from National Audio Company.

NAD. I have some of those and I am sending you two of them in the care package I promised. I have been so busy at work I haven't had a chance to mail them out. I will send them over the weekend.
BTW I bought them on ebay for $45 for 120 tapes. They are in bricks of 6 assorted colors and ten bricks to a sub carton and two subs to a master carton.
The ones I bought were directly from the US distributor in San Diego, they come with cases and j-cards.
Look up ice cool on google or ebay and you will find the guy selling them. Icecoolmedia is the guys ebay name
BTW the tapes are ok, I haven't really had time to critically review them.

I am careful rather than pessimistic!! I was outspoken last night, so will temper myself tonight. What is good about that site is the SM-60 at $1.90 each, packs of ten.
I'm not sure if that's comparatively a good price.
I have got some colouful type ones - no name brand - not even cool, and with a classical recording on my Dad's Yamaha KX-393 were impertinently accomplished I'm afraid to say. I have tried to forget about them. They were supposed to sound appalling for the equivalent of 40 US cents or so. But they were actually fine and as a consequence I can't categorize them.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.
These tapes could not be predicted to be any good, and now I am a loss as to how they should fit into my magnetic universe.
Cheers - Marc

Those TDK SM-60 10 packs usually go for $19-$25. There are some crooks out there that charge $5-$10 PER TAPE for those SM-60s. That is outrageous, IMHO. I think the only reason I got those boxes of TDK SM-60s from A to Z Audio for $7.50 is they decided not to carry them anymore, because TDK still makes them.

Yeah, I saw that auction & thought a little about buying them. I hope they sound OK. If so, I may buy some from tape.com.

You find the most interesting finds at thrift stores. I checked into this church thrift today.... hadn't been there awhile. Lo' and behold the "bin" of junk tapes and such had these. Six Type-II "Cool 90"s in color (still in wrap) and two Type-I "Cool 110"s in color. Sweet! Oh yea, $2 for all ....
6900
Now, what the heck to "do" with them ....

I have some of the parent company's Type I tapes (110 minute,) and I have had good luck with these. No dropouts, shells are held together with screws: all in all a good tape. The only drawback is that the "swirly" color design on the shell makes it a bit of a challenge to see how much tape is left while recording.
Hope this helps!

I just checked the site & the page is no longer available. It looks like they still offer the colored Type I tapes. It also looks like they still have chrome position tape but in black.

You can still get them from the Ice Website. Of course I think you need to buy them in boxes of 60 or so. He sells them in smaller lots on ebay though.
