Hi! Just got an $10 TC-FX4 from GW. No user manual of course. Have tried to find a combination to initiate recording and the only way is to press and keep RECORD button. Press and keep by second finger PAUSE button and by third finger press PLAY. So you have all three lights on like on the picture. Then press PAUSE again and you start recording. Seems too complicated. Is it something wrong with the deck or with me?*eyepop*
Can anybody point to a free UM for this or similar deck please? *check*

I've never used the TC-FX series, but they should operate similar to my TC-Kxx series. I've always pressed PAUSE, then press and hold REC while you press PLAY. Then when the music hits where you want to start, just press PAUSE again to release it and fade up the REC level.
I have the TC-FX4 schematics, but not an owner's manual.
ps - Looks like a fun deck. The LED meters are the same as my beloved vintage silver TC-K's.

Yep, you are right! Thanks! It was something wrong with my logic not the deck!
Could you please drop a couple of lines how to use that Rec/Play timer?
Btw I have a later edition of TC-FX4 with LED segments indicator. First one had needle indicators:
