what a sigh of relief when i saw the 'you are outbid...' notice at the last few seconds which is when i placed the bid.
earlier in the day i had decided to set a max limit of $400 and go for it. but i'd had a bummerly feeling of guilt ever since. don't know why.

the bills are up to date, rent paid, etc so money wasn't the issue. must be cuz i have too many decks already or so my conscience is telling me.

and looking around my 'media room' (living room) i have to ask myself, where the eff would i put it? my 84" movie screen is already sharing/alternating space with my 3 akai r2rs. the main a/v cabinets are maxed out. hmmm?

so after, i tried to get interested in a otari mx5050 bII, that i really wanted, that ended up going for a little less money. but i just couldn't muster up the will to bid on it.

has a scenario like this happened to anyone else?

anyway, i said the heck with 'em both and ordered a pizza *Hi5*. that and some cold brewsky will fix things *beer*!!!

edit-is 'bummerly' a word? (rhetorical)
more edit-and the '909' went for $405. and BTW, it was a working one, supposedly.

I know the feeling. You want something. You can afford it. But you also exercise some fiscal restraint and hold yourself to whatever budget you allocated for it. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. I've done it many times myself.

But still....when you see something you just "got to have".....

If any of your wild hair idea's come through I have some room here for you to keep them... I'd even test a 909 a few times a week while it's here. You know you can count on me for that!! *thumbsup* *grin*

I kinda did the same thing this past weekend with that CR-7 that had missing buttons. It was at $204, I put a $275 bid on it and went to work. Thought about it similar to what your sayin'. Came home and saw the you've been outbid email and I was OK with it. *reelspin* *reelspin*

truth be told, i wasn't all that crazy about getting/having a rt-909. from what i've read on them, they seem to have a lot of issues if not properly taken care of.
but this one seemed to be destined to come in at a good price-the $405 winning bid is pretty good for a working model.
so i thought i'd take a shot at it. but it wasn't to be...

oh well, more of each (incl. the otari) will come along in short order. they always do.

Hi westgate,

So enough room to fit the Pioneer deck was the main issue? Did the classic looks of this deck draw you in, as it did me? Guess what, you can be impulsive, but there's always the thought your next purchase could top the one you've just let slip by.

Geez, I don't think I was too helpful in consoling you in your time of misery. Ah well, I'm headed to grab another Sleeman's from the downstairs fridge, and enjoy some "Dark Side Of The Moon" on the ol' RT-909.

Nando.

yeah, currently, lack of rack/cabinet space is the big issue, i suppose. i need to reconfigure my rack/cabinet situation.
as h. greeley once said, 'go up, young man, go up (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_said_%27Go_west_young_man%27_-_and_when_was_it_said)' (or something like that). so i gotta go (more) vertical with my cabinets, eventually.

that's the worst part, 'you gotta have it'. but i really didn't care all that much about having a 909 previously. just then. LOL.

the $ i didn't spend on the 909 or the otari might be getting used on another killer multi-tascam 122 deal.
biding my time til the auction date...in a few days...

You trying to corner the market on those Tascam's?

not really.
(edit-no one has bid on them yet, including me. i forgot that. LOL! haven't had my first cup of coffee yet.)

the deal is not quite as good as the one from 2 months ago.
but almost.

ps. please pardon the mess i'm making of this post by repeatedly editing stuff, til i get a cuppa joe in me.

off the 'bay. again.
only they're MK IIs this time. and only 2 are working with the 3rd being a parts donor. but the total price (with shipping) per working unit was similar to last deal.
i was the only bidder, i suspect cuz they were listed in a different place other than 'cassette decks'.

i'm a little leary of the mkIIs-ie occasional problematic capstan motors.
so, we'll see what happens when they get here, next monday or so.

i was even able to show some restraint this week,,as some of you may know I,ve lusted over a pair of Maggies for about 6months,,and when a pair of 1Cs came up on Craigs list here in Sota I had cash in hand and was going out the door to do the deal until some last minute measurements told me that unless I wall mount my F--- 50inch plasma the maggies won,t fit on the wall so for now at least I,m safe but,,, theres a yamaha pre-amp I,m kind of eyeballing,,like I need another Pre

i'd love a set of maggies also but i also have no room for them. *fit*

just did it again, almost/sort of.
an otari mx-50n for a c-note. entered the bid, but just couldn't bring myself to click the 'confirm bid' button.

but i'd been thinking (DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!, DANGER!); a 2 track, hmmm, couldn't really use all my other stereo 4 track tapes on it, not properly at least. less'n it had a 4 trk playback head on it-no mention of such.
then, there's getting xlr cables and the possible polarity issue(s) of the xlr connectors on otari decks.
the deck hadn't been tested, listed as 'switched on, it lit up'. probably ok, tho.
and again, the space issue.
and it seems like i have enough to do now with using/maintaining all the decks i already have.

meh, guess i did the right thing.

i think.

maybe.

OH! i know. i'm subconsciously saving up for that studer 2 track i've always wanted. yeah, that's what it is.

won (and paid for) these decks on tues 10/6/09; todays the 10th, no tracking #, no communication at all from seller, nada.
and i emailed seller yesterday asking him to let me know when he would be shipping them. still no reply.

hope this isn't gonna be a problem...

he's gotta 99% rating so i don't guess he wants to jeopardize that.

so i wait.

and wait.

and wait some more...
