I am aware that in the 80s some pre-recorded r2r tapes were sold mostly by Columbia House. Anyway I won off Ebay a pre-recorded tape I know was made in 1982, since I also have the CD of that recording. It was a digital recording, so I was curious to hear how a tape from this source would sound being from that time. Anyway what threw me off was on the outside of the box, they listed the speed of this tape as 7.5 ips. Yet on the tape sticker itself it says 3 3/4 ips. I know most tapes from the 80s were done on the slowest speed, and the fact that tape I have was a double CD, so I'm bound to believe it is indeed 3 3/4 ips. Yet the screw up on the outside of the box. I've heard someone else say they've noticed this before. Lets not get into the fact it would be misleading to potential buyers to get a tape advertised a 7 and inside getting a tape that says 3. I don't think the tape inside was forged, so how many people here have seen this happen before? I have yet to play the tape to confirm exactly what speed it is at, but looking at it I think it still may be 3 3/4 ips.
