Hi all,
The other day I tried to use our old Aiwa AD-F260 deck as a mastering recorder for my TASCAM 4-Track. The cassette deck had not been used in a while, but a quick check over showed everything to be working fine - or so I thought. I put in a cassette, hit record and left it on pause whilst I did a dry-run on my TASCAM to check the levels etc for mixing it down onto the Aiwa. The second time around, I took the Aiwa off of pause, and began mixing in the master tape. At that point, there was a horrible noise and the Aiwa stopped. I opened up the cassette, only to find the tape hideously tangled! :S When I removed the tape and began un-tangling it, I noticed a small black elastic band come out of the machine.*fit* Now, I'm a Tapeheads newbie, as you can see, and no expert, but I'm guessing this is the belt that drives the deck that has weakened and snapped? Should I open up the machine and have a look, or would it be cheaper just to buy a new deck?
