I've been home from the concert for a few hours now and my ears are still ringing. Damn, that was one of the loudest shows I've ever been to. I was right down in front standing in front of the bass cabinets. Foghat includes drummer Roger Earl and bassist Craig MacGregor from the old days. The new guys were Charlie Huhn (ex Ted Nugent) on guitar/lead vocals and Brian Bassett (ex Wild Cherry) on guitar. Very, very tight band. They did a great job. I had seen a different version 3 times in the late 80's (that featured Roger Earl + Erik Cartwright) that kicked butt and had hoped this version would too. Mission accomplished! Even though it was extremely loud the sound was very clear too. The highlight (and surprise) for me was when they did "'59 Chateau Laffitte Boogie". In the middle of it they broke into my favorite Savoy Brown tune, "The Savoy Brown Boogie"! Very unexpected. The only song they didn't do that I was expecting was "Stone Blue". Pretty cool free show. I'm really glad I went.

P.S. I realized I didn't mention the venue. It was the main stage at the Taste Of Colorado Festival in downtown Denver. And it didn't rain. Yea!!!

i'm glad to hear they're still together in whatever form.
although without lonesome dave, it's obviously gotta be different.
foghat has long been a favorite band of mine.
1st LP i bought was 'energized' back in '73. still have it.

Unfortunately I never saw them with Lonesome Dave. I always really liked his voice. When it comes to old bands with just 1 or 2 original members it can be a crapshoot. But Foghat has such a high level of professionalism that I could overlook the fact that Lonesome Dave and Rod Price (or Erik Cartwright for that matter) weren't there. 2 nights earlier Grand Funk Railroad played. The current lineup does not include Mark Farner. That sounded kind of lame to me but the guy in front of me thought they were even better than Foghat was.

My ears are still ringing like crazy. I think it's going to be a few days for them to stop.

Hi clhboa,

Sounds like you had a hoot at the festival. And an outdoor venue, as well. Did they also play a nice long rendition of " Slow Ride "?

Nando.

how about '3rd time lucky' and 'fool for the city', did they play those?

my favorite is 'fool...' but i think '3rd time...' was their best shot at commercial success and i wish they had been able to market it better than was done.

Yeah, they encored with "Chevrolet" and "Slow Ride". There is a short clip of the show posted on the Foghat website.

Yes, they played both of those. They also played their version of Al Green's "Take Me To The River" from the "Nightshift" album. I think "Boogie Motel" is a pretty strong album and the last one with the classic Foghat sound. After that they moved in a new wave influenced direction for the last 4 albums.
