My BX300 has these problem of not being able to FF or Rewind after I changed the belt on the Lef behind the backplate. Before that it was only able to FF but with insufficinet power. It Plays well before and after.
I was told to change the tire but was advised that it will be temporary as the existing tire is in reasonably good condition. The problem is that there is not enough tension and what I should replace is the TIRE ASSEMBLY because there is loss of tension of some plastic part.
Can anyone show a picture of the Tire Aseembly and what are the parts comprising it.
Thanks.*fit*

if it comes thru, here is a link to a mr-1 transport layout image (http://www.geocities.com/p9019/nakamichi/Brochures/MR-1_Pg04.html), basically the same as the bx-300s transport mech.
it might help.
and here's link to the whole mr-1 brochure (http://www.geocities.com/p9019/nakamichi/Brochures/MR-1_Pg01.html).
i have both machines.

Your idler asy is ok. Chances are the replacement tire you bought is undersized. Compare it to the original. Tires supplied by ESL are recommended over the MCM onkyo tire.
In a few cases the felt beneath the brass pulley at the idler asy's pivot point gets slick. You can 'fix' it by putting a drop or two of alcohol into the felt. No disassembly required. Be stingy so the alcohol doesn't flow down into the motor bearing.
Idler asys are 'unobtanium', so you have to buy a BX1/BX100 parts deck to get one.

My BX300 has just started eating tapes with a large appetite. I removed the internal back plate to find the tension belt, gooey and snapped. The deck has been fantastic for yrs, where can I get and is there a proper part number for this small tension belt??
The deck has the idler wheel replaced with a gear system. I believe this is the same conversion that I had put on my BX2 25 yrs ago for about $60.
Please advise....
