One more pair of NS-1000M's for me!

I just picked up my fifth pair of NS-1000M's off the Craiger. They have one bad tweeter and one bad midrange so they were a decent deal. Cabs are OK and the grills are mint. I have replacement drivers sitting in boxes somewhere so this pair will be singing in short order.

I just replaced the midrange. Both of my spare Be tweeters were blown. (Thanks a lot, EFFIN' ebay! My fault, I should have checked them when I got them but still.) I soldered in a cloth dome tweeter from the NS-670 and it is a perfect fit. The cloth tweeter sounds different from Be and I will have to eventually get a proper replacement. Anyways, good enough for now. I get to enjoy my latest score!

The cloth dome tweeter doesn't have a wire mesh and that was starting to bother me. I removed the rubber ring and mesh from one of my broken Be tweeters and they are a perfect fit.*bananadance*

I'm playing an Ella Fitzgerald CD and the vocals are fantastic.

Some final thoughts on this pair of NS-1000M's...

I boosted the new cloth dome tweeter by plus 2 dB and that seems to balance the sound much better. However, the Be dome is definitely better conveying the brassy overtone of cymbals, horns, and strings. Anyways, the balance is good enough for now.

I picked up a pair of Yamaha stands for my NS-1000M's off my local CL. The seller had them pictured with a pair of White Van speakers but did not mention the stands were for the Yamaha NS-1000M. Of course, I recognized them because I have a pair in much poorer condition. I bought the stands and let him keep the White Van speakers.*bananadance*

BTW, Acoustic Image is classic White Van. They look impressive and have fancy binding posts but each speaker weighs only 10 pounds!

FF, well worth staying vigilant for a pair. So Cal is the entertainment capital of the world so we are loaded with studio monitors like the NS-1000M.
