First of all, welcome to TapeHeads. I thank you for joining and seeking our input.
Now before we can do that, please tell us a little more about yourself. specifically why you manage to destroy a lot of discs, what type/style/intensity of recording you do, what format (cassette or reel), and what kind of machine(s) you have or are interested in having.
From there, we ought to be able to steer you into the right direction.

Welcome. If you speak "tape" you're in the right place.

thanks for the welcome wagoning.
cds get destroyed when, they're in my car and i switch them alot and they get coffee and cigarette ash all over them and fall on the floor and my bandmate steps on them. i'm basically unorganized and more interested in other things than making sure my cd never touches anything or moves at all. tapes usually survive this, i have a tape from when i worked at a screenprint shop that is covered in plastisol ink and adhesive spray, and it rips.
i've been recording myself and others to cassette tape for maybe 5 years. i'm pretty bad at it. i've owned 3 tascam 4track cassette recorders. the one i have now is an old porta-one, the bigger boxy one with vu meters. apparently i'm the first one to ever use it, as it sat in a basement in plastic all it's life. i really like it and have done a few recordings on it, but i'm really worried about wearing it out/breaking it/basic maintenance stuff that i've never done before.
i'm also interested in starting a small cassette duplication business here in portland. the idea came about when i saw an otari dp-4050 for sale ($1500) at the recording store here called superdigital. they don't do cassettes anymore, and didn't know anyone who did, so i said, that can be me. the machine has 1master and 9bays, but i think 3 or 4 of the bays don't work.
i've never run a business before, i'm not the most tech savy guy at all, this would be alot to learn. however, i think there is more than enough demand for tapes here, being a musician, and talking to bands that are dubbing tapes and are annoyed with it, people at thrift stores that are re-finding out about tapes and loving them, new releases by very popular bands on tape, and my own love of tape.
so that's where i am with tapes. thanks so much for your support and help.
