Hello guys! I have an opportunity to get the Pioneer CT-900S deck and I just wanted to know what you guys think about it in terms of sound, durability and in general. I must I like the specs but I dunno how much influence can they have on actual performance. It's got pc-occ amorphous heads, twin-capstan (Presumably wuartz-locked), dolby-s and host of other features. I must also say that this would be my only deck and it would replace the much-loved tc-k511s which I think was a tremendous value in it's price range. Do you think the Pioneer would be a jaw-dropping improvement over Sony? It would sert me back about 150Euros (220dollars). it is as good as new buzt if you guys have better suggestions, I will value that! It doesn't need to be a Pioneer:)
Thanks!

R.D,
The CT-900S is a fine choice and like I'm sure others will chime in on, has build qualities on par with the more expensive Pioneer Elite decks. If you can get one of these for that price in near mint condition, you're getting a hell of deal. That said, you could wait around for some extraordinary opportunity to arise at a much lower price, for something that may or may not have higher mileage, but if you want longevity and peformance, I'd go for the CT-900S you've spotted.
Opinions will vary on the merits of a Pioneer deck of this quality versus a Sony, but I'd put it out there that they are nearly equal, depending on the models of course. For those wanting the quality and performance of say an Elite 91 or 93, the CT-900S is sort of a sleeper model that runs with the best of what Pioneer has manufactured.

Wow if Lady Ayeka/ McGyver was here- he'd be putting up pages of info on this deck. He too is looking for one of these decks.
Anyway he seemed to think it was one of their best decks (though I myself would prefer a CT-93).

Hey BlazeES, you are right about CT-900S being a sleeper. I think this would be a good deck for me. Sonys with the same functionality would probably cost me more. From my point of view, CT-93 doesn't look much better. Also, I can't seem to find one that is for sale.

For what it's worth, I'm proud to say I've never owned a single Pioneer tape deck of any sort or flavor. It's either good, clean living that none show up in my area, or I never had any really appeal to me. But like all things audio -- if you like it then enjoy it!
