I hadn't used Pandora Radio since my work blocks web streaming, but my wife does at her place of employment. I recently got an iPod Touch and Pandora radio was one of the free apps that is available. So now I have it set up and installed on the PC at home and on the iTouch for the road. I love the way setting move with you so if you establish a new station on one machine when you start up the other it shows up there in your account too. Consistentcy.

Anyone else use Pandora? It's like having an XM or Sirius station anywhere theres a WiFi signal.

Anybody got any great custom stations? My fav right now is the Chamber Music of Baroque period. Also have a Tangerine Dream station set up, and some great smooth jazz stations. I'd like to find out more about this Music Genome Project too.

Any fans?

You might think, but I view it more that Pandora fulfills what our NRP (National Public Radio) used to do. They broadcast classical music that you wouldn't hear anywhere else, and now most of that is greatly reduced or gone. AFAIK there's one classical station in Alaska in Anchorage and I can't get it here. Pandora allows me access to that music for the cultural joy regardless of location.

Besides, 99.9% of what I post in "What's Playing Today" is cassette-based music played at work. *thumbsup*

Joking.
As I noted today in another thread music is what matters and availability is a strong factor.

+1 here.

My school has not blocked it yet, so it provides many enjoyable hours of tunage.

I've had Pandora on my laptop for quite a while but rarely used it since the stereo is in the same room. But I started using it quite a bit when I got a Blackberry a few months ago.

I agree with you, it's nice to have your own personalized stations. It's a great way to discover new artists. I'd never heard of Porcupine Tree until I set up a King Crimson station. Good stuff! Some other stations I have set up are Howlin' Wolf, Thelonious Monk, Steely Dan, Lyle Lovett, and several others. The only station that didn't pan out too well was Duane Allman. Only about every tenth song was one of his *headache*

We have three good public radio stations here in town; one plays AAA mostly but a lot of the current stuff doesn't impress me. And they play jazz only on Sundays. I usually can't stand the classic rock stations and oldies stations. They have the same pathetically short playlists just like 30-40 years ago. The way things are going, it looks like the days of terrestrial radio are numbered...

You should add a Tangerine Dream station..... they pull up some great corresponding stuff.

I use Pandora. Though mainly for having on low volume when I am trying to fall asleep. No need undue head-wear on the Naks for then!! I made a Gene Harris channel that works for me (among others)!

Just recently discovered Pandora and have been listening to it back in the computer room, which also happens to be my main listening room that includes two stereo systems.

I have only made 3 stations so far - ZZ Top, NIN and Industrial music. Been having too much fun seeing what the "genome" serves up in these three stations to set up any others yet, but I will get around to it! *yes*

I personally have not seen or heard any ads on Pandora, but maybe that will come up later. Still, the variety and sound quality of the service is amazing!I loved Pandora on my old phone. When it becomes available for the Lotus, I'll be all over it.

I listen to Pandora frequently. The bitrates are decent, even for a free user account, and it has introduced to to music/artists I normally would not have come across otherwise.

I reckon it's normal that most businesses would block Pandora. However, at the hospital that I work at, Pandora was open for a while, but was later blocked because of the amount of traffic it received. It was deemed "unrelated to work". Well, our doctor's here listen to Pandora during surgeries and charting, and were irrate.

Needless to say, Pandora is not blocked here anymore, lol.*Hi5*

Never heard Pandora. I usually listen to one Live365 station operated by a friend in Republic of Korea (Full Spectrum Radio) but Live365 is having some intermittant packet loss trouble that's killing it somewhere past San Jose (HQ) according to the FSR owner. She programs a full spectrum (hence the name) and I stream little else other than You Tube.

Having never heard of it, and always looking for something new and interesting, I Googled it. (No one here had posted a link) Ended up with the following page

Dear Pandora Visitor,

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.

Hello Scorpion,

I lived in Phila. PA most of my life, and am still close. I have Pandora on my Verizon Palm Pre Plus Phone, and I use it. More for classic rock and Folk Rock....But I havent ventured to far into it.

However, seeing that you like Tangerine Dream....I wanted to make you aware of something. I do this myself, and I have many 10.5 inch reels of good tape, filled with this music. On Saturday Nights, (Really Early Morning Sunday) at 1 AM Eastern Time, NYC. There is a FM Radio Station, very successful, and is a NPR Station, with a Great Format. I am within range, and get it with my Tandberg TPT-3001A FM Tuner, but its also available online. The Station is WXPN FM 88.5 in Philadelphia....they also have towers in Maryland, and near Pittsburgh I think. But anyway, at 1 AM on Saturday Night-Sunday Mornings, for the Past 30 plus years, they Play, Commercial Free what is called " Stars End"....and it runs from 1 AM till 6 AM Sunday mornings, at which point it fades into "Sleepy Hollow" another Great Music to wake up to...

But the "Stars End" is hours of music, of Tangerine Dream, and Groups just like them, that play the Space Type Music...and I would set the Timer Function on my TEAC X2000R, or AKAI GX-747 DBX...so that they would record it direct from jy Tuner, even if Im asleep. And with the Auto-Reverse Function of the TEAC and AKAI Decks, they hit sensing foile and reverse, to record the entire program. I love this music, and its a great Station, this music has succeeded for 30 plus years, so there is an audience for it. And having it on Analog Reels, from a great Tuner has been Great. But its also available to record from the Website XPN.org I think you's really like it. I have an Audio Timer, by Sansui, hooked up to my TEAC or AKAI and leave my FM Tuner on, and it works like a charm. Best, Ray

PS. WXPN is University of Pennsylvania Public Radio....very Big Money Station for Public Radio. Ray

Hi Mike,

I know what you mean about Classic Rock stations. But a Philadelphia station 102.9 FM WMGK is a very active and Big Classic Rock station, tries to play a bit more. but still repetitive. However, if you go to the website, and instead of listening Live to the station, there is an option callled Deep Trax...click on that...and you will hear the rare tracks, Frank Zappa, and Rare Pink Floyd among others....give it a shot. BTW, they have a Free Concert Today, July 4th,2010 featuring Paul Rodgers of Bad Co. at Cooper River park in New jersey. Ray
