Hello All, another diagram I am looking for is from the Teac X-20R, it too has a dead capstan motor and again its not the belt, has anyone got the diagrams or service manual for this machine?

Thank you.

I purchased a complete set of printed manuals from teac for about $10.
The deck is a x10r

can you post a picture of your deck? I'd like to see what the differences are..

thanks

Hello Reel;
What do you need a schematic for as the capstan motor is not usually included in the diagram. Check for the crinkle sound in the capstan motor as turned by hand and if so then it is toast.

Hello, I too have the diagrams for the X-10R thank you but the circuit is different, the fault is not the motor itself but there is no power going to it, the problem is either the IC on the capstan drive board which I may try to replace just to check but when I last had the back off, I am sure there is a signal missing going to the board to start the motor, on the X-10R in the diagram, there is a loop link on the connector going too the capstan drive board, this link does not exists on the X-20R but instead were the link should be, it goes back to a large PCB, though a relay then it gets a little complicated from there in hence the need for the diagram.

Sounds like the same type of problem I have with the last X2000. I still need to check if there is power at the capstan drive board

I can not remember the whole thing I did but basically I compared it to the X10 diagram (Funny how my X-10R had a blown IC on the motor board and my Tascam 38, the Tascam 112 MKII has capstan problems too!), there is a voltage to it and I think I went as far as checking that the IC had voltage and was getting input signals, I am sure that I metered a voltage signal +VCC, a speed signal but no direction signal, that's when I came stuck as the X10 has a loop link back to the board and the X20 does not. From memory, I cam to the conclusion the fault was on the large PCB behind the reel motors but couldn't be sure without the diagram.

Hello, looking for a download if possible rather than paying a huge sum to Teac for a photocopy, still looking.

Thank you.

I opened up the machine and have found the capstan motor has burned out, I had amlost got it back together after lots of delicate repairs, then one of the brushes shattered, anyone know here I can get new brushes for this machine or a complete capstam notor think anything from X-10 onwards may work.

Cheers!

Try calling Teac. They still had some last time I talked to them, but it's been a couple of years. I have an X10R parts deck if it comes to that.

Did they sell you the complete motor or just the brushes?

Hi Reel to Reel;
Teac has never sold brushes for any motor they used. This is because they wanted to sell you the whole assembly as was most profitable. It was only enterprizing types such as myself that learned on my own time to rebuild motors so that a better economical situation could be explored. I was actually looking for why a motor stopped working when I found out the reason and very easily counteracted it. I also applied oil to these motors bearing where none seemed to be. The reel motors for 1/2" deck were the easiest to rebuild, then the reel motors for 1/4" -there were two versions maybe three and then Capstan Motors are the hardest to deal with. Once you know the drawbacks and you get to them in time, you can rebuild them- actually it is recondition them. You just came upon one of the flaws in the reconstruction phase. You see, there are little holes in the end of the motor where the brushes are lifted out of the way while the motor pole is mounted into the bearing. Sloppy work in this area is quickly found out. Those that know this secret which can be figured out by observation, are always successful after that. There are some motors - the crinkle sounding ones, that you will never fix. However, if they are intermittent in spinning or start and still spin there could be a solution in that. I also clean the stator and brushes and treat with preservit that is a form of lubrication as well as contact preservation. The brush part is carbon and there is no known way to re-attach the brush to the copper spring support member- I have not tried conductive epoxy. That may be a solution. I think the original mount is by weld.

Thank you for the info, I had done that on my X-2000R and it worked well but the X-20R the brush is damaged, I managed to rebuild the motor but it was very noisy and after 10 minuets the already damaged brush disintegrated, the motor really us beyond repair so now I am looking for a complete one as the com is also in poor state.
