sony tc-k670 dual capstan chews

so, my best deck for years has been the 670, but the issue ive had with it is having two capstans, if one is even slightly off, the tape gets chewed.

i could NEVER use the oval shell xl2 in it, they would ALWAYS chew.

well, one day i was fed up and decided to take one of the rollers, the first one was taken out, and its been working nicely since.

Any thoughts to trying to repair it? There's reasons to have dual capstans and you've defeated that provision.

i could care less about the half db of headroom i gain with the dualies

id much rather not worry on chewing fresh tape.
