Well if you had a whole set up of Technics that matched this deck and you had to have the whole setup then it would be a good price. :)

I'm not surprised. It's a pretty rare deck, Technics didn't make many of them. Then again, how many people could afford $2000+ for a cassette deck in 1978? From what I've heard, that deck sounds incredible & is built like a tank.
Man, I bet the guy that lost the bid on this thought it was in the bag. He was the top bidder for most of the auction, only to be outbid at the very end by someone who hadn't even bid previously.

Now I don't feel so bad for paying $1300 for my Aiwa deck 2 years ago. It ended up being $2000 after the other fees and the service done on it to date. It will go higher though if I get more work done on it.
That Technics may be a good deck, but I doubt its in the league of the best decks out there. I wouldn't pay 2G for that deck.
