Well, I did through testing on the Teac 3340S I got...except for recording.

Fast forward start and stop are perfect, as is playback.

But, on reverse, there seems to be some sort of switch that does not close properly in the machine, applying the brakes to the takeup reel and preventing the deck from working at all (capstan still runs).

Sometimes, rotating the supply reel will make it correct itself (I can hear a click), but sometimes you just have to let it sit there for a few minutes and it will somehow fix itself.

The Brakes are very white, and grip about as much as the ones on my 3300 do, and those work....so...not the brake pads...

your relays in your machine may need cleaning or replacing. the 3340s is an awsome machine. good luck, i hope it works with out.

I emailed Sam Palermo about it, and he got me started as to where to look for the faulty relays. This weekend I will start trying to track down the issue. It could become my 'daily driver', if it sounds better than the Tascam 34B that I am using now...

I know how great these machines are, I have used a 3340 at my school extensively, own an A3340S, and have a 3300 that is almost back up and running. They sound extremely good, my only qualm is the transport...there are far better transports out there.

what got me thinking is when you said it made a clicking sound and my Crown reel to reel does that when i turn it on, (relays cutting in. so i thought, he maybe the relays are dirty or something.

i have 2 crown CX-822's. they are marvolous. They sound awsome. what i like about them is that mine have the option of XLR, 1/4inch and RCA plugs or the rear of the pre-amp.

You are one lucky dude! The only 2 tracks I have are a pretty much dead at the moment Tascam 22-2 and an almost functioning Teac 3300-2T.

whats wrong with your 3300

Sluggish transport, need to tighten the reel tables down somehow, or tighten something else down, as the takeup reel goes in and out fairly badly. It is also missing the left tension arm (cut off for some reason). I want to make rackmount ears for it, because the wood side panels are pretty much destroyed....but it was free...and very recently calibrated before being thrown in a closet....

the price was certainly right, just the other day i picked up an Akai GX270d reel to reel, the tension arms were rusted due to water damage, i soaked them in acid and now it works great. i have the matching 4 track to your tascam 22-2 i have got the 22-4. great machines.

I checked out the 22-2, and it has gotta be the nastiest deck I have seen in a long time, just coated with tape goop everywhere on the transport, and the buttons are dirty as hell....surprisingly, the knobs are clean. The capstan does not like to turn, but the reel motors are fine....I'll give it a cleanup this weekend and post how it turns out.

If I had not grabbed the 3300, it woulda hit the trash when I said that it was missing some important parts (I rebuilt pinch roller assemblies for the 3340 and 3300 that belonged to my school, and the 3340 turned out fine, the 3300..uhh...kinda didn't...and I wanted it, so they said take it).

the Teac A334o is actualy a pretty simple deck, you should not have any problems trying to figure out what is wrong with it. i got an wasome score today i got the old mixxing board from my school a mackie 24-4.

My school did a musical with a Yamaha LS9, and luckily i was not running sound for that one....eek...I could barely run it after weeks of teaching.....

I want a Yamaha 1604 from my school that's currently distorting badly (worked fine a couple months ago), but I dunno if the music director will let me have it.

I just want something for live sound that doesn't break when you move it..

I have in terms of mixing boards at the moment:

Sound Workshop Logex 8
Tascam M30
JVC MI-2000u
Teac Model 1 (not working)

the tascam M30 is a good board. the boards i have at home right now are the Mackie 24-4 and a mackie 1604 and a pyramid 2700. i like having the 4 bus out for my 4 track reel to reels so i can controll the record level right on the board for each channel.

Nice. I might be fixing a CR1604 soon, if I can get to the guy's house.

I like the M30 for DJing, and some recording, but I find it to have a bit of a dark, overly warm, slow sound....which is wonderful for a lot of things....but audiophile listenin ain't one of them.

The X-3 is a truly awesome deck...looks crappy, feels crappy...sounds....better than almost everything else I have. *hearts*
