Hi: My Nak RX-202 is acting strange... At the start of play, when I hit the Play button, the heads go down and start to read the tape, then right away, the heads go back to "up" position and all action stops, as if I had hit the Stop button. I thought maybe it was the blank section of leader tape, but I advance the tape by hand to the actual tape section and still does it?1 Is this mechanical (motor trouble) or a tape reading issue?! Sometimes when I hit Play at the start, the right hand spool jerks back before going forward and this stops the action as well! Thanks, Huck

could be a glitchy AUTO-STOP mechanism. i once had a mid 70's PIONEER CT-F2121 that played for about five secs. before the AUTO-STOP would suddenly trip. i think it was related to a stretched belt. your deck, however, is probably more sophisticated than that one, so who knows?

Check to see if your tape counter is moving when it tries to PLAY. Most decks of this era use a Hall-effect motion sensor on the tape counter belt to tell the logic controller that the tape is moving. If it senses no movement, it shuts the deck off out of PLAY mode. Usually caused by a loose/worn/broken tape counter belt.

I have a similar problem with mine. It puts the tape in and then just ejects it without playing. I can fool with it and get it to play manually but I suspect something with the belts or motor drives. Would love to have some input if you have had experience with this. Thanks!!

Thanks! the tape counter does not move when the PLAY button in pushed, the counter stays at zero! It plays after about 4 separate pushes of the PLAY button. Weird!! Huck
