I went to Best Buy today (I know, a mistake under ordinary circumstances) to see if they by chance still had any blank cassettes. No such luck. I wonder further into the music section and then I remember that they were starting to carry a handful of vinyl albums. I walk over and peruse the selection (not much, but it's a start) and picked out a repressing of Guns N Roses Appetite for Destruction. It was a little pricey, but I figure what the hell. I head up to the register and there was a young girl working this particular one. She takes a look at the album and I hear "Huh", like she didn't know they carried that or something. She then asks me if I am buying it to collect it. I told her no. She then states "Ohhh, you have one of those things to play it on? Cool!" Why would she think I was "collecting" a GNR album? And "those things"? Wow. I guess I have officially witnessed the generation gap. Good thing she didn't know I have a couple of reel to reel decks at home. Bet that would have really blew her mind.
I just found the situation a bittersweet moment and figured I would share it with you folks.*reelstop

Oh man, that is hilarious. I think I'm officially "over the hill" along with the rest of ya, seeing as how the gear we all hold so dear is now officially termed as "one of those things". *old*
I'm waiting for terms like "whatchamacallit's" and "frisbee spinners" (hmmm.. maybe a frisbee nowadays is ALSO a "one of those things... ").
Egads... I'm going to go put another nail in me coffin... *smokin*
Just curious tho... how much for the GnR?

Everyone that I talk to is floored when I say that I have a R2R deck...much less 6 or 7 of them...
And about as many TT's...

The GnR album was $20.00, but I figure I would buy it in hopes they would see there is a demand for it.

Good story!
Perhaps we should make up some TapeHeads business cards & hand them out to dumb idiots who have no idea about vintage gear... *wink*

I'm surprised she didn't ask you if you wanted some rock-design speakers to replace any boombox you may be using in your back yard, too. (As an avid boombox aficianado, that new commercial kills me! Like that's the only reason to have a boombox!)
I highly recommend you hit any remaining Virgin mega-stores you run across. Most of them have a pretty decent vinyl section, at least by today's standards...

When "Appetite For Destruction" first came out" a local store had tons of copies with the 1st cover art right next to the new one. I opted to buy the new one instead because I liked it better. I'm still kicking myself over that decision.

None of those stores around here. It's either 2nd hand at Half Priced Books, finding places online, or the dozen or so at Best Buy. There are a couple of record shops here, I just haven't travelled across town to visit them yet. I really need to though. I have a feeling there is some really good stuff awaiting me.
