Hello fellow tapers! Let me just take a brief moment to present this weeks update bulletin. I did not post one last week because 1) there was nothing to report and 2) I was too dang tired from four days of watching after ten kids and enduring a four hour drive home.

That said, this week there still isn't really much of anything to note. I haven't really made any changes to the site that are worthy of mention.

In case any of you missed it (hopefully unlikely, given that I posted it across four forums), the "Name Those Tunes" contests are back. The first one will be posted next Saturday as per the announcement.
http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=455

I would also like to point out, because I didn't really make it clear, that the contest will be hosted inside the MUSIC forum. And to further reduce the possibility of offsite cheating, that board will be closed to all non-registered guests. In other words, if you are not an active, registered user of TapeHeads at the time the contest is posted, you will not only be unable to participate in it, you will be UNABLE TO SEE IT until after it's over and I re-open that board to general viewing.

This could be a chance for someone to score some nice tapes. Of course, the contests aren't new. I held them numerous times over at AK before I was suspiciously and unceremoniously dumped from there.

Speaking of AK, for those of you that are following, I have no shortage of material to work with in terms of pointing out their contradictory and hypocritical mentality and policies. Anyone who cares to contribute is certainly welcome. Personally, I don't think it will be too much longer before that site implodes unto itself under the weight of their own size. Of course, I have incorrectly predicted the collapse of certain other entities (such as United Airlines) and they have yet to happen. And have been blindsighted by ones I never did see coming (such as Aloha Airlines). So who knows.

For you seasoned tapeheaders, you pretty much know where I stand and what my philosophy in running this site is (and why I continue to pummel that desceased equine corpse despite having launched my own all new site). I am always open to suggestions for improvement and will go out of my way to avoid being categorized with the same stigma as them. All of you have been an outstanding bunch of people to hang out with. You have done a wonderful job in helping TapeHeads grow from nothing to an active membership base and several thousand posts in only a couple of months. And the site is getting busier and attracting new members all the time. You all seem to share my vision and passion for what we all share as a common hobby. PLEASE do not blow it. I don't want or need anyone coming along and attempting to sabatoge the site and giving me a reason to pull an iron-fisted "Grumpy" move. This is why I didn't take the time or trouble to construct an elaborate syllabus of rules and conduct. It's pretty basic around here. Rule #1: Behave and act maturely. Rule #2: If you got a beef with someone, let's try and work it out. #3: If anyone BLATANTLY (my emphasis) comes in and starts leaving a trail of wreckage a-la hit-n-run, they will be gone. Period. And unlike certain other sites, I won't be shy about telling everyone else why. If I ever have to jettison someone from here (which I sure don't want to), I'll be very candid, frank, and open to everyone else as to why. That way there won't be any ill will later. I'm giving every one of you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that all of you are level headed and mature adults. You ought to know the difference between starting a stimulating and spirited debate as opposed to coming in and knowingly trying to piss everyone off. And if I ever say or do anything that offends you, you come to me first and let's try and work it out. Lord knows I attemped that ad nasueum elsewhere and it fell on deaf ears. Hence why it's open season for potshots on them. Ergo, I might not be 100% of everything to everyone. But for anyone to try and start a string of anti TapeHeads posts on yet ANOTHER site is going to have an excrutiatingly hard time doing so with factual accounts (exaggerations and outright lies are another matter though) given my desire to run a fun, open minded and honest website here that recognizes that the members DO matter.

Which leads me to my final point:

I am toying with the idea of setting up some kind of "subscriber" accounts where people, if they want, can donate to the site to help keep it running. Up to this point, I have kept it free and have not asked for a single penny of monetary reimbursement. I certainly plan to maintain that policy for the forseeable future. Though if anyone DOES want to make a voluntary donation, that would certainly be welcomed. Though in the short term, I would really prefer all donations made in the name of TapeHeads go to my cousins, the Reed family first. (See http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=395

I won't be shy about it. If there's a way I can make a few HONEST dollars off this site, then why not?

Certainly were I to ever reach the point of requiring some kind of paid membership to join, everyone who is in here now would be Grandfathered in and would continue to enjoy all benefits currently enjoyed. Fair is fair. I'm talking more along the lines of adjusting some of the features like edit post ability, PM capacity, photo album space allocation, those kinds of things. I have already had one company approach me about a possible sponsorship where, in exchange for a donation, their logo and URL would be blazing across the top of a page.

And of course, as promised, the wanted to sell listings will remain free. Again. I have no plans to change any of that.

These are all simply ideas I'm considering. Heck, I might not decide to even implement any of them. I just want you to be aware.

I guess that's about it. Hope everyone is still enjoying themselves. From what I see, it certainly does. Keep it up. Keep spreading the word out and let's all build a BETTER web site that will be the BEST Tape Based website!

I don't think many of us have a problem with commercial sponsorship.
Most of us expect some sort of advertising.
You are doing a fine job so far.

"I'm giving every one of you the benefit of the doubt and assuming that all of you are level headed and mature adults."
My wife begs to differ on that assessment.*Hi5*

The Rules seem fair and just to me...I'm just glad to have a place to hang my hat,get comfortable, put a tape in...and hit "play"!! Rob

LOL! My wife doesn't question my level headedness or maturity for a second. But the yin to that yang is every time she sees me on the site, she yells out "NERDS" in a perfect Japanese accent a-la "Revenge Of The Nerds".

She also thinks, because of my penchant for things "old" (such as music, love for reel to reels, favorite TV shows, and desire to live in a small country town), she thinks I'm a 64 year old trapped in a 34 year old body *old*

Wonder how many actual 64 year olds would in fact LOVE to trade? :-?

I'll second that! Cheers!
