There is a book I have to recommend to anyone who likes audio cassettes like you & I do. The book is "Cassette Tape Recorders: How They Work - Care & Repair" by Walter G Salm, 1973. Some of you may already have this book. I think I first came across this book in a library either in high school or college. A few years back I came across it on Ebay & bought it. It has a lot of good information & photos of all kinds of cassette decks, home & portable units. I see Amazon has a few copies from various sellers available.

Yeah, it's a bit dated, but keep in mind it was published 35 years ago.

Looks interesting, but isn't there a lot of information in there that's now outdated and inaccurate? I only say that because when I started learning about electronics I made the mistake of taking out books at the library from the 50s and 60s, and things like schematics and certain components like transistors have obviously changed a lot since then, so some of what I learned was wrong.

No, a lot of the info still rings true . What I meant by dated is it was written before metal tapes, Dolby C & S, dual-cassette decks, etc... Much of the book just describes the history of cassettes, how cassettes are made, various features cassettes decks have, different types of decks, basic care & maintenance, etc... It's a good read & lots of pics.

Cool, I might get one eventually.

Wow, this forum is great. I use to have one of those nifty removable mounting kits in my '72 Chevy. It was a Pioneer cassette deck with just FM hooked to a 40 watt Realistic Amp with cool meters and Jensen triaxials in the rear deck. Makes me feel old yet young again, thanks for the Flashback.
