Congratulations TH'ers! You all did it. I promised that as soon as we cross two thresholds, 100+ members *AND* an average of 50 or more posts per day for 30 consecutive days, I'd hold a [new] Name Those Tunes contest.

Well. We have crossed both boundaries. We are now up to 152 members (the other two being myself) and as of yesterday, have averaged 71 posts per day for the last 30 days.

So I believe it's time to host the first TapeHeads.Net "Name Those Tunes" contest.

Many of you are current or former AK'ers, where the contest was born. So for you, you should remember the rules. In case you forgot, and as a service to the new folks, let me just review them for you.

I will post the contest in the form of a post, simply titled "Here's The Name Those Tunes" contest during the time period to be announced below.

In it will be attached some links to YouTube Videos of my system playing. The first person to correctly identify the artist and title of *ALL* songs playing will win one of the prize items shown. That's it. There is nothing to buy, no futher obligation of any kind. As long as you reside within the United States, I'll even SHIP it to you for free. So there will be no bait and switch "win a free tape, just pay shipping" games. Non-US TH'ers are certainly invited and welcome to play. But because of the substantially higher shipping and customs charges, I would ask that I be reimbursed for the shipping.

So here are the details:

1. The contest will be posted next Saturday July 19, 2008 sometime between the hours of 9AM and 12PM Pacific Time. Please be sure to check your time zone and calculate the plus or minus hours accordingly.
2. The contest will consist of 11 (eleven) video clips of a song playing. One song will be an "instant win": First person to identify the artist and title of it will win their choice of prizes shown. The next seven clips will be the "main" contest. First person to correctly identify the artist and title of ALL SEVEN of those songs can also claim a win to any one item. And the last three clips will be "Bonus" songs: If someone wins the main round of all seven songs, they can claim an additional prize for any one or all three of each bonus song correctly identified.

3. The time limit on the contest will be twenty four hours (one calendar day) from the timestamp shown on the initial contest post, or whenever all available winnings have been claimed. Whichever comes first.

4. All entries and responses to the contest MUST be posted in the form of a public response to the contest post. Entries submitted via e-mail, private message, or hidden message will not be eligible to win; regardless of their accuracy.

5. It is strongly recommended that you do not post 'partial' replies. If you don't know more than...say...four of the songs, just SAY that you "only know four songs". Do not help someone else possibly claim a win they might otherwise not deserve by posting only partial responses. They can then take your answers, combine them with others, and their own and claim victory-even though they may not have legititmately known every song.

6. The musical selections this time around will be varied. Selections will include Classic Rock, 70's, 80's, and 90's music. Other styles that may be included will be Oldies, Easy Listening, Adult Contemporary, and Trance/Electronica. So the more knowledgable in music you are, the better your chances of winning.

7. I am the sole judge of this contest and my decisions will be final. I reserve the right to prematurely cancel the contest and/or refuse to award prizes if I have reasonable cause to suspect cheating-including-but not limited to-posting the links in other forums and the poster asking other board participants to identify the songs for you. This contest will be honest and fair. And I expect all participants to play accordingly: a test of your own existing musical expertise.

So what will the prizes be? Well. Take a gander at what TapeHeads will have up for grabs:

1. A sealed/NOS roll of Maxell XLI 35-180B 10" X 3600' reel to reel tape.

And for those of you who are still on AK and they miss them, feel free to tell everyone (these contests were a huge hit there) that the contests are back. But they need to join TH to play.
