I was wondering if someone can tell me if there is a way of finding out when my X1000R was made such as with the serial number or other method. I was able to find out about the age of my Pioneer RT-909. It would be nice to know the month and year.
Thanks for your help.

*reelspin*Many thanks for the link. I wasn't sure if the production on the X1000R was confined to one year.

Regards.

*reelspin*I e-mailed Teac yesterday and a lady there said 1984 @ $1400.00. It would be nice if there was a way of decoding the serial number. I also asked her about certain parts and there are not available anymore.

Actually, you can determine the manufacturing date from the serial number plate in the back. There is a two digit number on the right side of the label. The first digit represents the year, and the second digit represents the quarter in the year (ther are four quarters in a year: Jan-March, April-June, July-Sept, Oct-Dec).

For example, on my Teac A-3440, the label on mine has a sequence of digits on the left side, then a space, and on the right side of that label is an '01'.
Thus, a manufacturing date of 1980, in the first quarter. The 0 means 1980
(198 --> 0), and the 1 means in the 1st quarter, thus within Jan-March 1980.

You might think the year could be a problem in that 0 could also mean 199(0), but simply know that the A-3440 was long out of production by 1990.

With your X models, its in the 1980's, thus a 4 would mean 1984, not 1974, or 1994.

I have seen some other Tascam models, mixing boards as well, with three digit numbers, I believe the two digits are the year, and the last digit is the month, or the quarter, I dont recall exactly, so for example, an 861, would mean January 1986. Hope this info is helpful to you.

The model you mentioned goes back a-ways, atleast as old as a Teac A-1200U I have from 1970.

However, I think the s/n pattern code I mentioned in my previous message doesnt apply to models going back that far in time. I checked your model on Ebay and saw some listings with pics of the s/n in the back of the recorder, and it looks like a regular s/n to me, so I dont know if there is a date code for those early models. Most likely Teac implented the code I described sometime in the later 70's.
