Not that I've been dissatisfied with my current speaker line-up but for the past while I've been wanting to add a different pair of speakers into the mix.
Unfortunately, pickings are pretty slim locally.

However, I went to a guys house a few days ago to pick up a Pioneer cd recorder that was listed for sale on a local website.
Turns out he also has a pair of Klipsch Forte' for sale along with a pair of La Scalas and is the original owner. Long story short I come home this morning with a virtually mint pair of Fortes *smokin*
Yeah baby come to papa!

Very cool! *thumbsup*

Now if I could just find myself a reasonably priced set of good "condish" DQ-10's.

I "knew" it'd only be a matter of days from getting a new ride available until the gear hound was back out chasing the almighty score! Looks like my faith in mankind (or is that Canuckind?) is rekindled. *thumbsup* on the nice score!

Those are on my want list.
One of Klipsche's better efforts.
I had a set of nice KG-4's for a while,I liked the way they sounded but a pair of ADS L-810's sounded better.
I let the 4's go to a good home but the Fortes I have heard really impressed me.
Nice score.
They look new.
What will they be competing with at your home?

A friend of mine has the KG-4's but the Forte's are on a completely different level. I'm really impressed too. For now they've displaced an outstanding pair of Monitor Audio Silver 9i's.

Enjoy!

Horns certainly aren't everyone's cup of tea but I like them. The Forte's are wondefully dynamic with a huge soundstage and in those ways reminds me of the pair of ML Sequel II's I had...except they aren't power hungry like the ML's.

That's not very complimentary to the KG-4's. Since I think the L-810 sounds dull, the KG-4 is no longer on my list except for small coin.

Congrats BB! What amp are your using? Tube or SS? Are the horns fatiguing with SS?

So far I've only driven them with my MX-2000. That amp is incredibly smooth and I've not experienced fatigue at all.

Fortes are the most expensive things in my collection. Great sound but a little picky with placement. Due to limited space at present that is why they fall a little short of the JBL L112s. LaScalas, hmmm. *scratchchin*

Nice score Broons. I love seeing vintage gear that's still glossy and has the corners intact! I'm on the fence with Klipsch these days. I have their stuff for my home theatre set up but it seems like their product has been getting a short shrift in the last couple of years. I'm not sure why?

regardless, your speakers are definitely of the quality era. funny how this stuff tends to show up at the house when we're not looking.

I am not saying the ADS are a better speaker, they just sound better with my choice of equipment.
I use a Pioneer SX-1250 as my main unit.

I've owned and regretted selling the L-112. That you think the Fortes "fall a little short of the JBL L112s" moves the Fortes down my list.

I had a chance to buy a pair of LaScalas for $300 but missed the return call because I turned off the phone during lunch!

Rat44, I used to own a SX-1250 and the L-810 but I never played them together. That the KG-4 didn't pass is enough recommendation for me.

Taste being what it is I've also had a par of L-112's and found them dull and lifeless. They were in the house less than a week. I find the Forte's absolutely blow them out of the water.

Bummer on the La Scalas, what a score that would have been.

Compared to the L-100 and the HPM-100, yes the L-112 is more dull and less livelier. Plus, I thought the L-112 woofer lost cohesion at higher volume. All of these models are gone so that's what I think of them!

Don't go by my impression. As I said the Fortes are sensitive to placement (rear passive?) and all things aren't equal. My Fortes were an impulse buy (who has a yard sale on Monday?). Nonetheless they have a great sound. I also have the HPM 100s as well as Polk 10A, Canon TLS-1230 and Klipsch 3.2 hooked up to an SX-1250 (did I say I'm slow to sell *sigh*) and the HPM rank low in the mix. My L100s are in a bedroom. I have some Design Acoustics D-6 but talk about sensitive to placement. Just too many factors affecting speakers. I've read of the synergy of tubes and Klipsch but that's some major rearranging for a later date.

$300 LaScalas *whipslap*!

Yeah, I know. What could have been. I emailed the ad about 5 seconds after it came out and it was 5 days before the guy called back. Damn!

I LOVE Klipsch! I always wanted a pair of Fortes, but I got (almost by accident) a pair of Chorus II speakers instead. They were floor models the owner of a stereo salon couldn't get rid of so he sold them to me at cost.

Love 'em or hate 'em, there's Klipsch, and there's everybody else!
