IMHO, this is one of the best pieces of audio gear I own. Use it all the time. I'm getting another one to use with my Sony & Teac decks. Too bad Radio Shack doesn't sell them anymore.

Hmm, that seems like a good idea. Of course, I only have one deck, and when a new one comes there won't be room to have them both near each other, but in the future that's something I would consider using. How much do they go for typically?

Not bad, but I prefer (and have) a mixer. The one shown is in my system. It does everything your relay box shown does PLUS allows you to do overlays/overdubs/segues, etc. It also has built in tone controls and L/R channell separation and crossfade ability. Plus, it looks a lot cooler IMO --smokin--

Through this board, I am running two single CD players, a CD/cassette combo deck, two cassette decks, and a reel to reel (because I used up all the in/out loops on the cassette decks, the R2R is configured for playback only).

Good stuff all:-)<-. This looks cool too.. I did manage to find one of these dbx 400XG Program Route Selectors last year. The only thing out there is 3 or 4 input routers like gamers use for multiple consoles to one set of audio/video jacks on a TV.... sans the video they work for routing somewhat.

I have Sansui audio mixer with three tape loops and a fourth playback only input. My Eq's also have several tape loops each.

I need something like this that has more tape inputs. With two or three tape decks, an 8 track recorder, plus a reel to reel possibly being put into my main system- I'm tapped out of inputs. I was going to jimmy rig a connector above one deck to allow me to connect what ever Im using at the time for tape loop 2.

You can snag one on Ebay usually for between $10-$25. I think I paid $15 for mine. Right now I have my computer, NAD 613 cassette deck, & my Pioneer minidisc deck hooked into it. I'm getting another one to connect my Sony dual-cassette deck, Teac A-103, & Burwen 7000A Transient Noise eliminator. The Burwen has a tape monitor loop in it, so I may just hook the tape control center in there, then have my Teac & Sony decks hooked into the tape control center. That would give me 1 more tape monitor loop, so I may be forced to break out my Panasonic reel-to-reel or my Hush Noise Reduction unit.

I think I have about 5 of those RS dubbing boxes, they have always worked well for my purposes.I seen a Sony version made back in the days I wouldn't mind having, will see if I can find a photo of,it was all silver and looked nice all by itself on a shelf!! Rob

That's why I need another one.

Had routing probs for many years, first I built my owm selector box with monitor, play and rec for two sources. That was very expensive in parts.

Then I started using Sony SB- 300.
They are prone to have button failure.
Then I tried out the QED selector boxes but they lack the monitor choise when recording between sources.

Rudolf Schmidt have one direction selection.

Finally I got hold of 2x dbx 200x.

In these you find flexible monitor choise even when recording in between sources. You have the option of putting effects or NR systems in between.
I use that for my digital home recording studio.

Bypass is also built in. I find that important.

All cables inside has been upgraded for better sound.

It doesn't have any video options. I really don't give a s... about that.
TV doesn't really catch me.

These selector boxes really do the job and pass signals on to my 6 input Mark Levinson No38s preAmp.

Acoustic,

I was debating to get one of those DBX 400XG units. I think I can work around the lack of a fourth input. Anyway are these units well built enough to not degrade the sound of the decks vs the deck going straight into the amp?

Also can you give me the dimensions of the 400XG?

No degradation heard from my 52 year old ears. Switches are quiet also. And yes it was probably designed when it was unheard of owning more than three sources. It also has a nice schematic on the top of the unit. Dimentions are 19"W-7"D- 1 7/8"H.

I bought one from ebay, finally found one who ships here.
Now I wait to arrive and use!
