Ok here a dumb one ,,because I use my Sansui AU999 as a Pre/amp and My Phase Linear as a power amp I find I can only run One set of Speakers ,So I have a nice Marantz 2238 that also has Pre/Main out puts on it ,is it possible to plug my main amp into the Marantz and be able to run 2 sets of speakers out of it and if I can do I plug my amp into the Pre or the Main I don,t want to fry anything,,this minor dillema wil cure itself when My Yammie amp comes back from repair as it has dual speaker inputs on it,,as always Thanks FF

Assuming you want to use the Marantz to drive two sets of speakers, and your "main amp" is the AU999 (you won't be using the phase linear, correct?), then go from pre-out on the AU999 to main-in on the Marantz.

My Mama taught me not to make fun of people, but really FF, the Phase Linear has outputs for 2 sets of speakers right? The PL has a reputation for catching fire so do be careful. I would not run two sets with the poor little Marantz at the same time. I have experience in blowing up amps, just ask jbeckva *devil*, so what are kind of speakers are we talking here? And how are you planning to use them?
My 2270 will drive the Logan's at low levels only. Even then I'm asking for trouble if I'm not careful, Saul Marantz didn't design the 22xx's for a 4ohm or less load, magic smoke, fire and brimstone, not a pleasant afternoon. If you chose to do so, I certainly wouldn't leave the room with it on.
You just got your home back in order after the furnace/flood debacle, please be carefull *check*!! Can you borrow an amp that can handle what your needs are?

Not gonna work then, you disable the speaker outputs when you use the main in on the Sansui. You need a different amp, why not use the Sansui amp as is? Don't try to trick the PL with two sets wired together *no*

Ok, now I understand the picture. So to keep the Sansui as the preamp and to run a second pair off the Marantz while letting the PL do it's job with the 1st pair, why not keep the Marantz whole/jumpered and just run a pair of RCA's from the Sansui's tape out (if you have a spare set there) to the Marantz' Aux in?
Granted you will have to operate separate volume controls (one on the Sansui, the other on the Marantz), but there won't be any risk involved. Just temporary til you get the Yammie back, right?

I Thought of just using the Sansui and at 75 watt per channel it would work out ok ,the AU-999 has ton of bells and whistles but I usually leave the contols flat both sets of speakers have enough bass and high end also the HPMs are very effecient

I thought of elminating the Sansui alltogether and using the Phase Linear as the power,,the Marantz as the Pre and tuner and using the Marantz A-B to control the Speakers,, As far as the Yammie that would solve everything

When you take the jumpers out of the back on any intergrated amp or receiver (pre-out/main-in) you disable the speaker outputs and the A/B switch functions, so you gotta do what jbeckva says, that's the only way.
Too bad I'm not closer, I got lot's of stuff you could borrow *Hi5*. My SAE P102 preamp has dual outputs and I have a couple of nice amps too.
Those HPM-100's are an easy load, 75watts should be plenty for 'em *headtunes*
edit: you just want to see the big VU's on the PL don'tya?? I hear ya on that!!

The Marantz A/B speaker outputs are a function of it's power amp section. The pre-outs are before that, feeding the power amp. If you used the PL instead of the Marantz' built-in power amp, the A/B speaker outputs wouldn't do anything for you.
Normal operation of Marantz...
(preamp aka source switching, tonal and volume control)<-JUMPERS->(POWER AMP)->(A/B SPEAKER SWITCHING)->A and B speakers
When you connect the PL
(preamp aka source switching, tonal and volume control)<-RCA CABLE->P/L AMP->only A set of speakers
The Marantz' PA is before its A/B speaker selector switch. You're not thinking of hooking the PL direct to the Marantz' actual speaker outputs, are you? (sure way to let out the magic smoke there... )

Use an RCA splitter and you can run both your amps. Agreed with the others, it is better to fun one speaker per amp-channel. Doubling up will stress your amp and drastically reduce your margin for clipping.

Not dumb at all.
Many people want to do the same thing.
On some high end unit's they have a "scr" (or similar) it's a speaker switch box controlled by the main unit, if you want this capability buy a speaker switcher from radio shack, fry's or some similar place for a couple $$$ or just wait till your other gear gets back from repair.
