Welcome.

What exactly do you mean?

Any mono speaker recommendation?

I guess I never really thought about it, but aren't all speakers mono?

I've found out that I enjoy listening in mono, less distraction than stereo, especially the vocals.

I learned it through Tivoli Radio One, which uses quality mono speaker.

Besides space is an issue. (I live in studio apartment. I would rather have one high quality mono speaker than two stereo, whether high quality or not.)

Well, I thought they are used in pairs as stereo mostly nowdays.

I want a speaker deisigned to be used as a mono speaker (just like my Tivoli One) from grounds up.

I like the sound of Tivoli One, warm, natural, slightly boomy in linear manner. But they only take 1/8", and I want something that can do louder without distortion.

In that case, you should go vintage by friend, as in a nice old Tannoy dual concetric driver, heavenly with a nice tube monoblock amp *Hi5*

What gear do you have amp/preamp wise?

i can recall the klipschorn being touted as "you only need one".

for stereo recordings you'll need an integrated or preamp that can deliver a mono signal. otherwise listening to stereo with only one speaker will only get you half of the stereo signal. mono recordings will always playback in mono regardless.

Do you mean "driver" or "speaker?"

I don't know about tube monoblock, don't they need a lot of baby sitting to work?

Besides aren't they very expensive for the power they provide?

One reason I'm going into cassette is I'm getting tired of throwing CDs away due to scratching.

I just used my old sony walkman, and connected 1/8" to my Tivioli Radio One to listen to the ABBA tape.

I'm waiting for a nice Beomaster 8000.

I read that Beomaster series receivers can selectively choose mono or stereo.

I'm waiting for Beomaster 8000.

Klipchon, sorry, folks, it's too big, and too expensive for my budget.

I might have to settle with Beovox RL 140/7000 or Penta, or what do you think of Dalquist.

A single Dalquist for mono *scratchchin*, wow, what a friggin' sweet idea! Those need some air around them and some nice high quality watts. Tubes/valves don't have to be babied, there's lots of new stuff that checks itself and adjusts, basically plug and enjoy.

Plus the ease in just finding one working Dalquist is higher than most people think.

why not go with a pair of DQ's, or any other speaker of preference, and listen to them in mono?
