I haven't done this since high school, I know Advent fans like to do this. I also am familiar with blowing amps up *embarrased*!

I've been really digging the JBL sound of these L56's, I'd like to try a stack with another pair (when $$ come in) The big Yamaha should have nary a problem with two pairs of these.....maybe wall mount them for sound reinforcement with the Logans in a bi-amp situation....*scratchchin*, gotta find my mirror ball *devil*

Stacking with the same model speaker is the right way to go! When I was setting up my stack, more than a few audio guys recommended putting one speaker on top of another to create towers. I tried this but found the soundstage to be the wrong shape and somewhat unatural especially with live recordings. Music artists are arranged laterally on stage so the speakers should be as well.

i like to use two amps for stacking. usually i just connect the second via the tape monitor.

Excellent ideas! The placement was my next question, I have my SAE pre-amp that has dual outputs. I have to rein myself in here, this place is starting to look like a frathouse *Hi5* I dig it!

Agreed, one channel per speaker is the way to go. And, use the same model amp if you are going to use more than one.

My living room is about 15 feet across. I have my speakers arranged in a gentle arc so that all of them are about equal distance to my listening chair. I also found that boosting power to the outside pair spreads the image more as my setup tends to sound too centered.

If using identical amps I would use one amp for the Left side (left ch of amp driving say the top Left speaker & the amps right ch driving the bottom Left speaker) & the other amp the samy way for the Right side. This will give you the best stereo seperation with the only thing hindering the seperation would be the pre-amp specs.

Play around with placement to see which you prefer. Stacking one on top of the other or side by side.

For stacking you can try these below configurations. T = tweeter & W = woofer.

W
T
T
W

or

T
W
W
T

or

T
W
T
W

Putting the speakers next to the wall will help with bass, in the corner even more. Hanging them on the wall off the floor will hurt bass some.

Just test placement & configuration going with what YOU like best.

Judging by your notation, you are suggesting vertical stacking? I tried that and found the soundstage to be unnatural. Music groups are staged laterally so it would be logical to stack laterally. Placing the driver types on the same plane reduces cancellation and phase errors. Of course separation will depend on how wide your room is and whether you can space your stacks far enough apart.

Hehe! That's a wicked thought! I think the price is highish, if they were local, they'd be in my house. Dale said he'd pay about that for another pair.
