here is the brake set up and adjust for the Akai GX600DB
looks like nylon/cloth wrapped around reel with plastic strips to rub against for braking, activated by a solenoid push rod and springs and levers. Red areas is where adjustments are made for tight/loose(plastic strips).

I have lights issue with the dolby and sos. What info do you have, are they bulbs and replaceable?
If I remember correcly, down the buttons for SOS and DB there is just one bulb inside a black container. When a button is pressed, a side window opens and the light pass.
To access the bulb you need to unscrew two screws that joins the bulb container to the deck front chasis.
I think the bulb is 24VDC.

Thank you very much, will try that, unfortunately, I was anxious to get her back together to play, will have to disassemble later on.

Reeler, there was two screws in the front to disassemble the db/sos switch away from frame. There was the two screws in the back of switch, which as you stated held the bulb compartment to the switch assembly. There was two white wires attached to the bulb end tip, with bulb inserted thru a rubber pad. The bulb housing , metal or plastic? has slots on each side, for when the db/or/sos buttom depressed, would light thru the slot for appropriate button(one bulb operation).
One problem at that point, finding a bulb, which you thought was 24Vdc. Well, after lots of thinking about that voltage and searching, I concluded that vintage american stereos are 14 Vdc at the most, so that is what I installed. Found almost a perfect match here locally, but without pig-tails.
Thus had to solder wire on end tip of bulb and solder one off the base. Worked perfectly. Seems a little bright, but hey, it works.
in the photo of bulbs, the one on the right is replacement, I think it was flashlight type.
thanks Reeler

Hey Gary, nice job! That pic in your post #3 'naked frontal' is a great shot! Reminds me of JaeTee's shot of the exhaust system heat discoloration on one of the ALMS racers *thumbsup* Nice.

My camera was having a bad hair day for that photo. Actually had to send it to canon to fix. Got the coloration part fixed, but now I get a f8 error click every once in awhile, at the time when I really need to take a photo.
I am just glad that I was able to locate a bulb to replace and shine the light
on the db and sos.
wish me luck tonight, I bought a couple mega lotto tickets for the hundred million prize for tonight.
