Hi there, babyjdrums here, new to the forum, thanks for reading. The pre-recorded reel bug has bit me again and this time I'm trying to really find out the most I can about the Stereotape/Magtech, etc. companies catalog...it seems every other month a title that I wasn't aware of existing all of a sudden pops up! (i.e. Keith Jarrett Koln Concert, among many others)http://www.tapeheads.net/images/smilies/hissyfit.gif

So, dear readers, I was hoping to see if any of you had any info leading me to the Stereotape catalogs or employees, owner(s), etc. so I can bring to life A DATABASE FOR ALL OF US or at the least satisfy collector-itis! LOL

Thanks for looking, have a great day!

Welome babyjdrums. Can you show us what you are talking about? Post an example photo if possible. I'm sure someone here can help.

I'd try discogs. They list most formats.

Magtec/Stereotape reels all have a card that allowed you to subscribe to a newsletter called Tape-Log...it's basically a catalog of all their new releases back in the day...so, I'm either looking for those or the folks who worked/owned the place...while a wise suggestion by the other fellow who responded, Discogs is too all over the place and has a lot of holes in what is documented for reels...there's another reel to reel database for pre-rec's as well, but it's got holes too. Hence, I'm looking for first hand information.

It would be great to get this kind of resource sorted.
It's not easy, as Magtec were not the only manufacturer butthey were perhaps one of the best as their tapes were generally at 7.5IPS, whereas a lot of the others were only 3 3/4IPS.

THe quality is outstanding still - I prefer the sound of a tape at 7.5IPS transferred to my workstation at 24/96 and dropped to a quick DVD much better than any CD I have ever heard.
