Is it yours?

I sure wouldn't mind having one, but there are actually other Naks I like better aesthetically speaking. Unfortunate about that knob.

Its known the ZX-9 and CR-7A are supposed to be their best decks. The Dragon was mainly known for having the best playback. The other decks were better for recording.

The Dragon is Nice, but if I had my choice it would be a Nak 1000 series sweetest looking deck next to my 600 series slant panel

Yep. The Dragon is sought after for being the best deck for tapes that were recorded on other decks because of it's auto azimuth and auto tape sensing ability.

And, just to say... my CR-5A's are a CR-7A w/o the azimuth adjustment or reel time tape counter... for the most part.

And also, just to say... the looks of audio gear, to me, are way down in importance on the list why I pick them.

And I'll just say that I actually think Naks look far nicer than most other tape decks.

Always thought the 1000 was nice. Didn't Yamaha make a slanted deck also?

Lady Ayeka, Braux and others,
It is incorrect to say that the Dragon is only good to play other tapes. The Dragon can record more than perfect, better than the CR-7A and ZX-9 in this respect. With the Dolby out there isn't any noise, it is a heck of a recorder, and of course can play awsome and the bonus is be able to play other tapes perfect. The looks of a Dragon is like no other, tuff, nice, sexy with curve, beautiful and I can go on, but can be appriciated only if it is in front of you. I also have a CR-7A and 2 ZX-9, all 3 are like new out of the box. I have spare heads, pintch rollers, motors, faceplate, belts, for all 3 decks. And once you become a fan of Nak you will not want anything else. Well I do, the 680ZX, what I like is that the deck is build like a tank, very nice, but I hate the frame of the VU, is plastic where everything else is metal. I nver had a 1000ZXL but I bet will be nice, only that the experts of naks told me that all my 3 decks can play just as good except the Dragon that plays better.

One day I hope to be in your position. My lowly BX-1 makes such wonderful-sounding tapes, I can't even imagine...

the PIONEER CT-W910R and CT-91 are still my two favorite decks on the planet, but that BX-100 IS getting me to warm up to Nakamichi. truly excellent build quality for a low-end deck...o-o:-)

It's not low end... it's entry level:). Would you call an entry level Lexus a 'low-end' car??:-?

It's hard to beat a 680 series deck, those things are to die for. When they are "on" they make very good tapes.

The Dragon is my favorite cassette deck by far, I wish I had two. Besides being a great recording deck with every feature you need it will play back other decks recordings to their fullest. I still buy and collect pre-recorded cassettes and use the Nakamichi Dragon exclusively to listen to them by. No dull or flat sounding cassettes with this machine.

i collect prerecorded cassettes as well, mostly for the purposes of playing back on my CT-W910R and recording to my BR-1180CD HD recorder then write to CD-RW so i can process it on the PC with MAGIX audio cleaning lab 2004 and finally write to 8x CD-Rs to be played back on my DENON DCD-1500 CDP...
