Took a trip back to Chicago to visit Family and with the price of Gas at $4.00+ per gallon and me not employed at present I knew I had go as Cheap as i could,,so I decided to use my cruise and do the speed limit which varys from 55 to 70 mph but the avg was 65, I turned off the a/c when i got up to speed my usual avg miles per gallon were 18mpg,,making the mods got me a touch over 20,so a 2 mile to a gallon increase means I gained 36 miles per tank gained another 36 extra miles on the trip back for a total of 72 extra, miles which means I traveled the distance from ST Paul to Rochester minnesota which is about 75 miles for nothing,,but as much as I was doing my part to save a few bucks the pick-up trucks and suvs were blowing past me at 10mph over the limit

I use the cruise all the time.
It does save fuel.

In a semi the difference between 4 and 5.5 MPG adds up quick.*eyepop*

We only have ~7 miles of highway with three stop lights, so cruise control is a difficult option here. I used it last week on my pickup and had it set at 52 mph since gas here is $4.459 and my truck gets about 14 mpg. I was trying to see how much I could strech a tank too, but the end result was maybe only a few more miles on the fill-up. Inconclusive results for me.

Physical location makes it hard sometimes to use gas saving options. In this area they try to push electric. But that only works in town. Most people here live too far from work. I am in the same boat as most here, can't afford to live in the area I usually work in.

I do what I can also. I drive close to the speed limit and try to drive my vehicle that gets the best mileage when I can.

I can't afford to live in the area I work in either. I can't really afford to sell my house either as I probably couldn't find much at a similar price.

Long Distance trips where you drive mostly highway are the best way to Gauge the difference

My solution was to buy a used car tonight. 1998 Ford Contour. It gets over 20 mpg and almost double my Dodge Ram 1500. Plus, the Ram costs me $100/week on gas, and the Contour will only cost me $100/month for the used car loan. Never thought I'd own two cars for myself, but if I drop the insurance on the Ram to minimums and only drive it on weekends, and don't insure the Contour for colision damage (why? if it gets hit I park it and drive the truck) but I should be able to cut my gas bill by over 50% and still come out on top.
