This is my current deck in the main system, after being deckless since my beloved SAE was stolen. A tech friend found the Lux in a dumpster behind a frat house(if you live in a college town and, aren't adverse to such things, Darin has scored some great stuff)(I found a kitten once)

The bias fine and output doohickeys are broke off below the faceplate, and the record level knob is missing. So I haven't been recording*headache**fit* This about to change, another Lux K-112 is on it's way to AZ, a fellow AKer is sending it to me for the cost of shipping as a parts unit, he's not sure whats up with it not working. Big Kudos to our own Scorpion8, who was first in line and graciously let me have it.*Hi5*Thanks dude! So what to do? I'll check it when it gets here, I've never done anything other than a good cleaning to my stuff. Dale(roomie) is an electrical/transmitter engineer but, he's a very busy guy, grumpy too when he gets home*devil*So I'll have access to all kinds of test thingies.

I'd really like to get one of them recording, so this should be an interesting project. I really like the sound of this deck.*reelspin*I'll be needing some of ya'lls expertise soon.

This was the first deck I bought myself (later sold it), and now have a second one in my hands. It doesn't get use much. It was an ok deck in its day, but lacks many of the features the high end decks had. Its been so long since I've listened to something on this deck for critical listenning, that I forgot what they sound like. I got my 2nd deck off Ebay for basically $39 bucks plus shipping. I still have the original brochure too, however written all over it is.

Hope your repair goes well. Are you are able to replace parts yourself because if you have to have a technician do it, it will cost more in labour then the deck is worth today? Tell me your thoughts once you get it fixed. I may pull my K112 out of the crawl space to have a listen to it again.

Alpine bought out Luxman in the 80s which brought down the company name after that. They sold Lux in around the late 90s or so. There were decks with the Alpine name on them, but they were identical to the Luxman units. Same deck, different name. Luxman's best deck they ever made has got to be the K-05. Now that was a good deck! Wish I owned one. The 100 series from Luxman was rather lackluster and over rated, with a few exceptions. Only recently has Luxman gone back to their roots as a high end company.

No problem Craig. I figured you had a passion for it more than I did on this deck, so it's really no issue. And if you need any help t-shooting the mechanics, lemme know. But I expect good pics and some detailed review! :D

Cool Scorp, and as to it's quality, I'm only shure of the playback, obviously, with MA-XG's recorded on the old SAE, the source being LPs played on the Thorens with, IIRC an AudioQuest AQ 404 MC cart. I know some were made with the TOTL Grace from the late 70's (9ME??)

I taped the MFSL's first pressing of Dark Side of the Moon. I know for a fact that was recorded with the Grace on the 4th or 5th play of the LP. And even on the Lux it's so close to the LP it's scary, so the playback on the one I've got is great. As I said before I've not recorded on it, so......we'll see what's what in the end. I don't expect it to be up with the really nice TOTL rigs out there but, it's/they're all I've got to work with at this time.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with a great tape on a so-so deck sounding great?

I used to run a trucking company that had the US Mail contract up here. Mail moved between the airport and the Post Office everyday of the year, even Christmas. It just meant that it got to the Post Office and sat until the next day, but they always had somebody working to start sorting it and prepping it. Frustrating I know, to know that your stuff is within fingers reach ....yet ....

Any luck Stuwee on getting your deck? You mentioned on wanting both to be working, which makes me wonder how that will happen if you still need parts for both?

My bad, I must have mentioned it somewhere but, not here where I should have,it's on top of the stack in the pic below, I've been *stirpot*'n to much lately with the tape swap, losing a shot at my dream SAE in the auction site, search and find missions in the house for cool stuff, following leads for Tony Stewart stuff from AKer's, tring to get friends recruited to this superb site(Thanks Des!) and general *devil* ! so I'll get better pics and tear into them next week *hope* ,Craig

It powers up, that's all I've tried so far.

Edit: If you look under my profile, hit, Show all Albums, under Just some Stuff album, #3 there's a much bigger pic, this thumbnail didn'y transfer right, I'm still learning this pic posting.

So Craig- How would you compare the K-112 now with the Denon and Teac decks you have? Im thinking it terms of sound quality, not technical quality or features.

My, my, how far I've come since last July....it can't hold a candle to the Denon or the Teac but, it wasn't meant too either. I still use it (right now in fact, playing an old MA-60 I made years ago, with my 'new' Grado SR-60 cans).

It has a very clean sound, surprisingly nice highs, I can hear the diffs in the cartridge's I used back then from now, that in itself says alot. I'm thinking of giving it and the 'parts deck' to the girls I work with. Only because it's so hard to give MOTL decks like this away here on TH's if someone really wants them, give me a PM, otherwise, it's served me well and I really don't have an emotional attachment to it.

The Nak BX-300 is very special and will get the refurb it deserves, Hello NakDoc, are you free? The 'beastly' Teac is, of course, my fav, it's damn near purfect. Kinda like a Rolls Royce, the Denon is like a Bentley, very close sound wise but, doesn't have the fancy do-dads and the same pride of ownership feel to it. I'd call the Luxman an Oldsmobile Aurora, capable 90% of the time but, once you've tasted the best.....
