Ayeka,

Do you have a brochure or list of Pioneer receivers that had surround sound made in around 1988? I actually had one briefly in that time that was rated 60 watts per channel, but I took it back to buy my Denon instead. Im currious about what I had then. It wasn't a very expensive model- in around the $200 range. All I remember is the Pioneer had a unique smell to it when in use that I never noticed again in any other unit.

Just what I needed. Thanks! The SX 2300 was the receiver I bought back in 1988. Be curious as to how it sounds as I didn't give that amp much of a chance before I brought it back to the store. I didn't have real speakers then either.

I'm curious about this Pioneer smell, I've heard others talk about it. Tapes too have a distinctive smell by brand.

Hard to describe the smell because it was so long ago (1988). I just remember it did have one.

I understand, I tried to describe to some friends the way my, barely used before I got it, Yamaha amp smelled, some came over for a listen, and could smell it, a couple even got up and walked over for a better sniff. Pretty funny gettin' non-audiophiles to sniff your equipment*eyepop**stirpot*

They said it smells like a new car from the 60's that had been sitting out in the sun. These are folks my age, 40's and 50's. I thought that was a pretty good description*check*

Wow. I found a cheap used Pioneer SX 2300 on Ebay and won the bid! Paid only $29 for it plus shipping. Anyway I'll play with it to hear how it sounds with the other units I've had over the years. I'll use it for a backup unit.

Well here's some pictures of my Pioneer SX2300. Pretty basic unit. Haven't yet given it a listen. I seem to remember paying around $239 back when in 1988 or there abouts.
