you also may notice that the PD-3000 has a thick shielded power cable and a separated anadised aluminum top panel in addition to twin power transformers and a different main PCB design...

I can see why you like it so much, used to have two of this CD players, One I sold locally and it had the burgundy face plate like yours in perfect shape, the second black face I sold on Ebay not long ago. The sound is very warm and great bass extension, but the highs did not go to the highest nuances, it was missing. Now the accuphase DP-500 is way better and it is just as warm with way more detail in the music, it is a red book CD player that sounds just as good as any SACD player or better, and I am talking Marantz, Sony, Wadia etc.

for me, it is not exclusively all about the sound; if it was, than i would probably be standing by some OPPO or NJOE-TOJEEB "universal disc player" or a PC music server or something and deriding the "unholy noise" that eminates from my DENON DCD-1500 like most everyone else into digital audio seems to. i guess i'm just a superficial person, but the sound is half the picture to me. i could never live with state of the art sound if that ment having to stare at some bizzare contraption that looks like something a martian deposited last time they visited. there is a beautiful quality and solidity of construction and design inherent to these vintage CDPs that no one seems to be able to reproduce. i may be tin-eared, but the 1986 DCD-1500 is possessed of a delightful, intensely musical sound to my ears. and if this criminally outdated CDP sounds THIS good, (the DCD-1500 was a STEREOPHILE recommended component in 1986) than i can only imagine what a cost-no-object model like the PD-91 must sound like. please forgive my forwardness, but i believe you made a GRAVE mistake relieving yourself of your two PD-91s...*no*
