I know one should switch the polarity on the Otari 5050 decks to #2 hot for most uses. But does this effect the tape recording on that deck? I'm sending Matt a tape and I want to make sure its in phase or correct polarity before I send it to him. I already did the recording, but I can do it over again if I need to.

So should I switch the wires coming into the deck for making the tape? Or will one not here a difference on the tape itself?

Dont even worry about it, just play and enjoy. I went thru all that myself and it did not make a difference.

THe phase could change anywhere along the line , in your audio chain or in the studio for pre recorded. I went thru the trouble of rewiring my xlr adaptors for pin 3 hot. then when I made my own xlr/rca cables I wired them for pin 3 hot as well. In the end there was no difference.

The only difference you'd probably notice is if one channel was wired pin 2 hot and the other pin 3. you'd be out of phase then... kinda like if you had one speaker connected backwards.
