Any thoughts on Memorex tape? either r2r or cassette. I have heard/read that the quality may be lacking?
Any opinions welcome. thanks.*dunno*

"Is it live or is it...." Those ads always got me. Throughout my tape-life Memorex cassettes have always been mostly a rarity. Now you can still find some places that sell the dBS series and there's lots of them on eBay. I have one Memorex r2r tape but you'd have to search up my comments on it somewhere in the reel section.

I've got a bunch of NOS Memorex type IV metals. I've used a couple and have been fairly pleased. I have my eye on some Memorex r2r as well. I'll check it out regardless. thanks Scorp.

I remember purchasing some Memorex cassettes back the mid-1970s when I got my first "real" deck, a Sony TC-186SD. I think they were regular ferric tapes, I actuallly still have them (a problem of mine; I never get rid of anything) but can't remember where I put them.
Anyway...I wasn't that impressed with the tape; didn't have the same clarity of TDK-SA or Sony Ferrichrome, the top end seemed to roll off. As a result, I never purchased a Memorex again. They did have an unusual case though.

I have a handful of late 1970's and early 80's tapes. They have the funny storage case, and they also used a foam spongy tape pressure pad that is subject to crumbling. Either the tapes or my deck from that period was horrible as my tapes sound like crap. One of these days I should try re-using one of them on a decent deck. *scratchchin*

I certainly had to do what I called 'reshelling' Memorex tapes just a very few years after I got them....back around 1989 I bought a fair number of those replacement shells from Radio Shack to do this for about a half dozen Memorex tapes I'd bought new in 1982 whose foam pads had crapped out within those 7 years.

Well, I have about a dozen sealed Memorex metals to use at some point, so I'll just do the best I can with them.
There is some r2r tape available locally and one or two reels at least were Memorex. The price is decent so I'll consider it anyways. *reelspin*
tks for your input everyone.
