Has anyone ever used JVC cassettes? Years ago, Montgomery Wards used to sell 5-packs of the type I JVC tapes really cheap, something like $3. A friend of mine advised me against buying them, saying they were cheap & poorly made. Apparently, he had one or two pretty much come apart while he was using them.

I've used their tapes from the mid-late 80s and they were ok. Only have two of them (one dissapeared). Im actually looking for another of the ME-P90 tape.

There was a guy awhile back selling JVC type II cassettes for a fair price on ebay. I was going to bid on one of his auctions but I forgot at the time.

Sure have NAD 613,
I have G1, and AFII. Also I bought some (I think they were) F1S (also type like the G1).
I have not tried the F1S yet although I got them a while ago.
The G1 I often use - they are a straight-forward type 1, very similar ro a Maxell UR in sound signature. What does characterise them is that they seem very rugged, and durable. They have a clear plastic shell.
The AFII are brilliant type IIs - really good. Bright and fresh sounding - pretty senstive - In would put them on a par with Maxell XLII, but perhaps a bit more sensitive and equally abe to handle levels. Not quite as sensitive as an XLII-S. They also have clear plastic shell. I would not hesitate to get more if I could. I recorded a live concert on my TASCAM 112 using this tape - Four Seasons with the American violinist Joshua Bell. Using Dolby C, the result was fantastic.
There was an even rarer type II from JVC. The UFII. Grab it if you can because it would be technically even higher up the food chain than this one which is already of excellent pedigree.
Good luck--Marc

I think the rare JVC's I've seen are the metal ME-P90 and the chrome DA7. Those tapes I don't see for sale anywhere, other then a couple DA7s that popped up on Ebay a couple times.

I have only this AFI-90 type I cassette. I bought it in 1991 and recorded some on it U2 from other tapes and radio. I cannot judge the quality of the tape, because of the dubbing and the low-fi gear I used back then. Looks durable and made in R. Korea.

He just recently raised his prices. They used to be $14.99 for 10 cassettes. I thought I would try 10, but now at over $2 and $3 a pop shipped, I probably won't.
