i thought i'd share my enthusiasm for what i believe to be the greatest audiocassette ever designed; the TDK MA-XG. i thank AUDIOKARMA member STUWEE for evangelizing this technological masterwork upon me via the expediant of most graciously sending me one of his copies. thanks to him, i will now never rest until i aquire at least three more of these wonders; one sealed, one open, and one more to record reference tracks upon. anyway, it is my primary mission here to evangelize this engineering masterpiece upon all...

I had to buy one of the MA-XG tapes when they were out. I seem to remember paying between $15-20 for it. Only problem was I was saving it for a special home movie recording which didn't get used for, so I later put some albums onto it. The tape itself didn't age well as I had problems with it. I recently got myself a SA-XG which I will be putting into a frame, but I'd still like one to play with.

I too once used to have a substantial stash of MA-XG and SA-XG tapes. But like an idiot, I sold them all off. I made some very good money on them. But I sometimes wished I had at least some of them. Of solace is the three boxes of Maxell Vertex that I still have and will not part with at ANY price.

Matt, I was lusting after a box of your vertex stash as I obviously missed the boat when they were available and have never seen any for sale, but I guess it's not even worth asking now! I have 4 sealed ones but alas, no full box - yet!

The TDK MA-XG certainly is an absolutely top performer and one of my top 4 tapes. Fortunately I managed to stash a few boxes of these away and also have 30 in general use. I do find however, that the later MA-XG with the green type shells are better for recording classical music from CD sources due to the very low noise floor which is apparent during pauses or quiet passages.

The Older TDK MA-R though is still my favourite. No better than either of the MA-XG's but were the tape that was top of the heap at the time when my ZXL's left the factory and just mate up perfectly.

The vertex looks awesome in the Limited with the matching gold design. Sounds superb too
