What generation are the TP tapes considered to be? Also what is the purpose of the alignment tape from the TP?

'TP'--triple play? The old 600 feet on 3 inch reel, 1800 feet on a 5 inch reel, 3600 feet on a 7 inch reel type of tape? Or something else I've not heard of?

TP is tape project. They are considered to be half-generation clones. From their site:
"Q: How are the tapes made?
A: Our duplication process begins with the actual analog master tape. From that we make analog running masters on one inch two-track format. The one inch tape format transfer results in a extremely low loss of information, which we consider more like 1/2 generation than one full generation. These running masters are copied in real time to a bank of finely tweaked Ampex ATR-100 decks, yielding a "1-1/2 generation" copy. You just aren't going to get any closer to the original master, short of buying a record label or two."
The alignment tape allows you to callibrate your heads to take full advantage of the tapes. Basically getting your machine to the specs that were made in reproducing the tapes.

I've heard of Tape Project; I just hadn't equated 'TP' with that....
