Hi all. I just fired back up my BIC 960 turntable.
After not being in use for quite some time I can't remember (& I don't know where the owners manual is) what the setting on the headshell should be set to & how to determin what it should be set to. On the slide "lever/switch" there is an "M" on the left side and an "A" on the right side of the slide "lever/switch" & I also can't remember what the "M" & "A" stand for. Depending on what way you push the slide either the "M" is showing on the left side or the "A" is showing on the right side of the headshell.
Cartridge is a Shure V15RS (Type V)
Can someone please HELP???? And if someone has a owners manual and or service manual for this turntable & could please post it here that would be greatly apreciated.

I believe the 960 is a changer. If so the M/A might denote "Manual" or "Automatic" to adjust tonearm angle for the height of stacked vinyl. Some Duals have a similar set up.

hakka26 you are correct, the 960 is a changer. What you said makes sense & is very logical.
Thank you very much.
Now how do you slide/set the lever so it is set for "M"anual or "A"utomatic? Example: Do you slide it so the "M" is covered/hidden in the headshell & the "A" is showing for the Manual setting? Or should the "M" be showing to be set for the Manual?

I would look and make a mental note of the angle of the headshell by referencing to an lp, (it may be that just the cartridge angle is changed so close inspection will be required) see which setting puts the headshell (cartridge) more in line (parrallel) with the lp and the arm with just one lp on the platter for manual play. I would think in auto the headshell (cartridge) angle would nose down since the arm itself would no longer be parallel.

My feeling is that if the "M" shows it would be on manual and v.vs.. At a glance this would indicate what you have not what you don't. Levers on Duals work basically the same.

Yes...
This sounds right.*thumbsup*

I think the slight shift in the cartridge may be difficult to see. Might be able to touch the cartridge and fee the difference.

Hakka,
Where did you get the picture in your avatar; I am sure it was a magazine that I own but I just can't remember which one. Thanks!!

Back in the day when "Playboy" was a true mens' magazine and not the wimpy light reading it is now they had some relevant bonuses. The picture is from one of two "Entertainment" issues they had. This is from Spring '80 and spotlighted the changes. The other issue is earlier and has more "vintage."
