Oopsy-daisy. You might be right. Let's see. Southwest Airlines has had two incidents, both of which were pilot error where they overshot the runways because they came in too high and/or too fast. First was that one right here in SoCal at Burbank Airport where that one plane plowed through the runway fence to park at a Chevron station on Hollywood way. The other was at Chicago Midway when he came in a little too fast while it was snowing and took out that kid in the car. And how about them Delta pilots back in the 80's that kept landing at the wrong airports? "Phoenix? NO! This isn't Phoenix!":-oo
Of course not all air crashes are pilot error. Some were ATC "mishaps". Such as that one in 1991 where a controller cleared a USAir 737 to land on the same runway at the same time a Skywest prop-jobber was beginning its take off roll. That had some spectacular results, as the USAir cartwheeled across the runway. It was only about half full. But still killed about half of those on board. And nobody survived in the SkyWest plane.
And then there's the mechanical failures. Think that Alaska Airlines MD-80 that went into the Pacific off the coast of SoCal here back in 2000. It was learned that the corkscrew jack that controls the horizontal stabilizers was stripped and basically 'froze' them in such a way that the plane flew full speed into the water. Nose first. While flying inverted (i.e. upside down, halfway through a barrell roll). I can't even begin to imagine the terror those passengers went through those last few minutes.

Not an easy job but someone has to do it.
