Never seen these before when buying. Didn't know BASF made metal tapes...

Rare, but not uncommon. They also had some auctions of the mid 80s metal tape which I missed out on. I wonder if this tape would apply to my "Best of the Best" cassettes list or not.

I've seen these somewhere before, probably Ebay.de, one of the less common BASF types that pop up.
This multinational company made a number of Type IV Metal cassettes, namely the Reference Metal IECIV, Reference II Master and Reference Metal Maxima and no doubt a few others - check out tapedeck.org or melofanas. It for scans.
I'm not sure about the quality of their tapes, I feel underwhelmed by the recordings, maybe I didn't record to their full potential, perhaps they work better on certain decks.
I much prefer TDK, Maxell and Sony as they are easier to locate, but interestingly, when MFSL produced cassettes I think they were BASF chrome type 2.
They did make an awesome calibration tape, metal body with silver plating no less in a wooden presentation case and due to its rarity sells for the proverbial arm and a leg. In the region of $700 when new!
Would be interested to learn of forum members experience of BASF tapes.

I promised in another thread that I test the BASF tapes with my Aiwa. I did half of the types and hopefully finish all of them in the weekend and post the results. A friend promised me a Type IV (see pic), but I will not get it till mid-July.
