This is what happens when tapes are acquired gradually at $0.50 a piece. Here is a bar graph sorted by brand of Type 1 cassettes sold at Janesville thrift stores throughout 2008. Looks like Sony HF is the winner here. :)

Those apparently came free with general mills cereal in 1993. It must have been an attempt to get kids to buy them as they have a weird face on the tape. They are actually Scotch, they don't sound great but they don't sound horrible either. I played around with one of them but that was a while ago and I can't remember what the results were. They must not have been impressive.
