Hehe - reading here about Nak 480 beeing an excelent 2head deck for bargain - I've decided today to check ebay - and one was ending today. And guess what: I've won it for 33Eur.
It is stated that is technicaly inspected, "renovated" and everything is OK. I just hope that's true + it will be packed enough quality it will come in working state.
And then - some pictures will definetely follow.

Congrats!
To me one of the best if not the best 2 head tapedeck, sweet sounding and classic Nak mechanism.
Good Luck,

Congrats! If it's all set up as advertised, you should be very happy. They are great little "under the radar" decks.

It's the one on my stand right now. Wonderful machine. Just note, that it winds and rewinds incredibly fast, so be careful about winding it "into" the end-stops - there's no brake or anything. Typical Nak - fully interactive - which means you can't go to sleep on the job.. Oh, heck Stuwee, what have I said now....

What got me was the control logic. It's different. You push PLAY and a tape plays, and when it ends, the tape stops. But PLAY mode stays engaged, so if you flip a tape over as soon as you close the cassette well door it starts to PLAY again. You have to learn to hit STOP at the end of tapes. Most decks engage the STOP logic as part of their own control cycle.

Apaprently 480 is really interesting model - with sam a bit odd functions.
But as I understand from tech specs - it has the majority of features needed for quality reproduction.
Yes I really hope the description saying it is overhauled was correct - and offcourse - that it was done by proper care and knowledge ...
Now I justa have to wait and see/hear :-)

And can be dangerous - if you're recording, and the tape stops, and you flip the tape over it will go right back into record mode. Not a problem if you're on the leader, but if you don't notice...
It's a deck where you have to pay attention.
In terms of refurbishing one - I'd ensure that the original capstan belt is either in perfect shape (not likely) or that it has been replaced with either an original replacement or one of Marrs Communications excellent replacements. If you don't have a good belt, then the 480 will not perform like it should and may crease/otherwise damage the tape!

Deck arrived yesterday. Has some strange issue described here:
http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=2740.
Otherwise nice cosmetical condition. When working properly - nice reproduction. Records fine (even too fine ;-) :-( - again topic behind upper link).

Cosmetically it looks great. We'll try and help figure out that STOP/PLAY/REC issue too.

The tape deck looks great, again is it worth fixing? If you don't fix it yourself could cost you as much as the deck. Good Luck. I have one in the same shape like new, all I had to do is put some lithium grease in 2 places and works perfect. I bough it for peanuts and I will sell it on Epay because I can't have another deck as I am reducing decks. All started with the ZX-9 that Ross bought, next the Tandberg 3014A to Braxus, Now the Nak 480 and the Teac Deck X-2000R. I sitll have 3 Naks and the Studer Reel, this 4 Decks will Keep me busy. That said don't give up the 480 is an awesome sounding deck.

Well,
I've sent an email to seller (it's a company) that deck is not in perfect tech condition - and guess what - without hesitation they offered me total refund including shipping costs I had. And money is allready on my bank account.
So I think this NAK deserves my try out to get it back in ful order.
